Student answer (Band 5.0)

Over population in larger cities has become a growing concern for government. It is often believed that the best solution of providing enough space for living in cities, is to built tall buildings with enough flats for people. From my stand point, it can be a great possibility for humans to live and experiance citiy life without worrying about accomodaition.

Firstly, big cities are believed to be a mean of best quality of life and a large sum of population is now a days, migrating towards cities with their families. That's why it is necessary to build enough apartments for the rising population. In order to increase the quantity of houses without occuping much space, not only building taller buildings but also managing them is pivotal.

Another key factor is that homes in taller buildings can be a greater option for someone who is looking forward to quiet neighbourhood with lesser amount of noise and air pollution. In addition, skycrapings make a country looks more developed and enhanced the asthetics of any country so, living in such areas can definetly improve anyones' social standing.

Although it is often argued that life in such surbub is expensive and leavish but if one can afford it they will definetly recommand living in such apartments. A further point is that people with old scjool thoughts believe that living in towers is unethical, life without seeing neighbours and minding your own bussines is not a way of living in a society.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You give a general position in the opening, describing tall buildings as “a great possibility,” and you offer relevant reasons, including accommodating a growing urban population and using less land. However, the extent of your agreement is not made precise or sustained, and the discussion does not fully answer whether high-rise construction is the best way to provide homes. Points about quiet neighbourhoods, appearance and social standing are asserted rather than explained or supported with examples. The counterargument about expense and social isolation is introduced, but the response ends before it is resolved in the conclusion. To strengthen the response, state clearly how far you agree, develop fewer points with explanation or examples, and complete the conclusion by linking your reasons back to the question.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, separate body paragraphs and a concluding transition, and signposts such as “Firstly,” “Another key factor” and “Although” help show the intended direction. However, the overall progression is not fully clear: the discussion moves from housing supply to pollution and social status, then to cost and social isolation without consistently connecting these points to the central question. Some links are mechanical, and the final “To sum up” does not lead to a completed conclusion. Improve cohesion by grouping related arguments, using clear references to connect each paragraph to your position, and ensuring the conclusion synthesises the argument rather than stopping mid-sentence.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You attempt a range of topic-related vocabulary, including “rising population,” “air pollution,” “social standing” and “neighbourhood,” and some choices help communicate relevant ideas. However, the range is limited by repeated general terms such as “build,” “people” and “living,” while several inaccurate word choices or spellings make the reader pause. For example, “a mean of best quality of life” is unclear, and “skyscrapings” does not express the intended idea naturally. Aim for more precise housing and urban-planning vocabulary, and check spelling and collocations carefully. More accurate phrasing would make your ideas easier to follow and give you greater flexibility in discussing the advantages and drawbacks of high-rise housing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You use both simple sentences and attempts at more complex structures, such as “In order to increase the quantity of houses…” and the concession beginning “Although…”. Meaning is generally recoverable, but errors in sentence construction and agreement recur. For instance, “a large sum of population is… migrating” has an awkward singular construction, while “skyscrapings make a country looks” combines a plural subject with a singular verb form. The final sentence fragment after “To sum up” also leaves the response grammatically incomplete. Work on subject–verb agreement, articles and sentence boundaries, and proofread each sentence for a complete main clause. More reliable control of these patterns would make your complex ideas clearer.
