Student answer (Band 5.0)
It is often argued that the best way to provide sufficient homes in central cities is to build highted apartments.I firmly believe that it is not the practical approach to consider and I strongly disagree with this notion.
One of the key reasons that adress my merits are problems which will be encountered by old aged people through this concept. By building tall apartment block the number of floors for each building would be increased subtantially. For instance, multiple floors will be build, consequently count of stairs would also increase and old aged people will find it difficult to reach their apartments. Furthermore, tall apartment block will also cause issue with ventilation of air. By allowing the construction of one apartment to another the interior would be compromised and the leading effect of this would be bear by air ventilation, which is due to fact that the proper number of windows and exhaustion fans might get ignored during mass construction projects. Hence the residents will suffer either from cross ventilation or proper air ventilation.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
Your position is clear: you state that you “strongly disagree,” and you give two relevant concerns—access for older residents and ventilation. These points show an attempt to answer the question, but the response addresses it only partially. The task asks whether tall apartment blocks are the best way to provide enough homes, yet you do not compare this approach with alternatives or explain how other housing methods might work better. The two reasons are also brief: the discussion of stairs could be developed with practical solutions such as lifts, while the ventilation point needs a clearer explanation of how dense construction causes the problem. The response is 78 words below the required minimum, which leaves too little space to develop your argument and support it with examples.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a recognisable structure: an opening states your view, followed by a paragraph presenting two supporting reasons. Linking expressions such as “For instance,” “Furthermore,” and “Hence” help signal examples and additions. However, the progression within the body paragraph is not always clear. The discussion moves from older residents to ventilation without a separate paragraph or a clear transition explaining the relationship between these points. Some connections are also awkward, particularly “By allowing the construction of one apartment to another,” which makes the intended relationship difficult to follow. To improve, give each main reason its own paragraph, state its central idea clearly, and use linking phrases that show the precise relationship between claims and examples.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You attempt some topic-related vocabulary, including “sufficient homes,” “ventilation,” “interior,” and “mass construction projects.” This gives you a basic range for discussing housing and its effects. However, the vocabulary is limited and several inaccurate or unnatural choices make parts of the argument difficult to understand. For example, “highted apartments” is not an appropriate phrase, and “the leading effect … would be bear by air ventilation” does not communicate your meaning clearly. There are also spelling errors such as “adress,” “subtantially,” and “exhaustion fans.” Aim to use familiar words accurately before reaching for more complex expressions, and check spelling and collocations carefully. More precise terms for building design and accessibility would help you explain your ideas.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You use both simple statements and some attempts at complex sentences, including “By building tall apartment block …” and the clause beginning “which is due to fact that…”. This shows an effort to vary sentence forms, but control is inconsistent, and errors sometimes make the meaning hard to follow. For example, “the number of floors … would be increased” is an awkward passive construction, while “the leading effect … would be bear” has an incorrect verb form. Articles and plurals are also unreliable in phrases such as “tall apartment block” and “the proper number of windows.” Punctuation is inconsistent, with missing spaces after full stops and commas. Practise building accurate sentences with clear subjects and verbs, then proofread agreement, articles, verb forms, and punctuation.
