Student answer (Band 6.0)
Nowadays, with the rapid development of society, providing sufficient housing in large cities has become one of most widely discussed issues around the world. Some people believe that building tall apartment blocks is the best solution, while others hold a different opinion. I completely agree/disagree with this viewpoint. This essay will explain why I completely agree/disagree with this statement.
To begin with, one significant reason why I agree with this statement is that tall apartment buildings make efficient use of limited land. This is because large cities usually has a large popultion and shortage of land.as a result high rise apartment can accomodate a large number of resident in smaller land.Furthermore, apartment buildings often provide modern facilities such as security systems, parking areas, elevators, gyms, and playgrounds, which improve people's quality of life. Another important benefit is that governments can provide public services, including electricity, water, and transportation, more efficiently when people live in concentrated areas. another prime benift is that there would be much availibity of space for economic activities such as farming , leasing of land , utlizing the land for industrial purposes.
However, constructing tall apartment buildings also has several disadvantages. One major drawback is the lack of privacy and personal freedom. Living close to many neighbours may create noise disturbances and reduce individual space. Another significant problem is traffic congestion and parking shortages, especially during rush hours, because thousands of residents may rely on the same roads and parking facilities. In addition, densely populated apartment complexes can contribute to air and noise pollution. Moreover, if an apartment building becomes structurally unsafe or needs to be demolished, residents may lose their homes and face considerable inconvenience while relocating.
In conclusion, although high-rise apartment buildings may reduce privacy and create traffic-related challenges, I believe that their advantages outweigh the disadvantages. This is because they maximize limited land, provide modern facilities, and offer an effective solution to the growing housing demand in large cities.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
Your response addresses the question and gives a clear overall view in the conclusion: you believe high-rise housing’s advantages outweigh its disadvantages. You support this with relevant points about using limited land efficiently, providing facilities and services, and possible effects on privacy and traffic. This meets the task well, but the position is not fully clear in the introduction, where “I completely agree/disagree” leaves both options in the text. Some ideas also need fuller explanation: for example, the claim that concentrated housing makes public services more efficient is not illustrated, and the point about freeing land for farming or industry is difficult to connect to the housing argument. State your position consistently and develop the strongest reasons with specific examples.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The essay has a coherent overall structure: an introduction, a paragraph supporting high-rise housing, a paragraph acknowledging drawbacks, and a conclusion. The progression from benefits to disadvantages is easy to follow, and signposts such as “To begin with,” “However,” and “In conclusion” help guide the reader. However, cohesion is sometimes mechanical because several points are introduced in a list-like sequence with “Another” or “Furthermore,” rather than being linked through explanation. The sentence about land for “farming, leasing of land” also interrupts the paragraph’s focus, and the introduction’s unresolved “agree/disagree” wording weakens the connection to the conclusion. Group related points and explain how each supports your position to make the progression more flexible and precise.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use a relevant range of topic vocabulary, including “limited land,” “modern facilities,” “traffic congestion,” “structurally unsafe,” and “housing demand.” These choices help communicate the main ideas, and some less common expressions are attempted. However, spelling and word-choice errors are noticeable and sometimes make the reader pause, as in “popultion,” “accomodate,” “availibity,” and “benift.” There are also awkward or imprecise phrases, such as “much availability of space” and “leasing of land,” which do not express the intended point naturally. Aim for accurate, conventional collocations and proofread spelling carefully. A more precise vocabulary range would make the argument clearer and more fluent.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including explanations with “This is because” and a concession beginning “although.” Most of the argument remains understandable, but some grammatical errors recur and reduce accuracy. For example, “large cities usually has” has a subject–verb agreement error, while “in smaller land” and “a large number of resident” show problems with articles, prepositions, and plural forms. Punctuation is also inconsistent: the run-on sequence “land.as a result high rise apartment…” needs sentence boundaries and capitalization. The introduction’s “I completely agree/disagree” is grammatically possible but leaves the intended position unresolved. Review agreement, articles, plurals, and sentence punctuation, then check each sentence for a complete and clearly connected structure.
