Student answer (Band 5.5)

Homes are the basic need. It provide shelter to families. I strongly agree with this view because apartments are more affordable to every family as well as it provide safety and access to different facilities.

The reason why I support this idea is that it's a cheap and affordable solution for low income families as they are not able to afford houses and one room is not enough for a family to live comfortably. For example, In modern countries like Hong Kong, Singapore and South Korea preferred apartments more than lands as these are too expensive. Moreover, this provide access to pubic transport, shops and other facilities.

Another important reason is that apartments are more secure because some homes have garden and garage, so it become very difficult to care of them. Also families live in homes are always tensed about protection as homes are far away with each other. Whereas, apartment blocks are attached with each other also guards and cameras are present so it is not possible to do a crime easily. A good example of this is that a famous celebrity Jack black recently shifted to apartment. He stated that apartments are out of danger than homes because he has been threatened. However, some families also consider homes to live in large cities as they believed that apartments are little bit noisy and they consider to live alone and peacefully.

In conclusion, apartments are more protected as well as cheaper. Families with low budget can easily afford this and also it provide access to a lot of resources.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

Your position is clear from the opening: you strongly agree that apartment blocks can help provide homes, and you give two relevant reasons—affordability and security. Examples such as Hong Kong and Singapore help illustrate the pressure of expensive land, while the final sentence acknowledges that some people prefer quieter homes. However, the discussion does not fully establish that tall blocks are the best way to provide enough housing: the affordability point is asserted rather than explained, and the security argument focuses more on individual safety than on housing supply. The celebrity example is also not clearly connected to the wider claim. Develop the link between high-rise construction, limited urban land and the number of homes created, and explain the opposing view before responding to it.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, two body paragraphs presenting reasons, and a conclusion that restates your position. Sequencing phrases such as “Moreover,” “Another important reason,” and “In conclusion” make the main stages easy to follow. Some connections are less clear or mechanical, however. The shift from security to the celebrity example and then to the opposing view happens within one paragraph, so the paragraph contains several different functions. “Whereas” also introduces a contrast without a fully balanced sentence. Use separate paragraphs for the counterargument and your response, and make references such as “this” more precise so readers can immediately identify the idea being discussed.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate your main points, including “low income families,” “public transport,” “facilities,” “protection,” and “apartment blocks.” There are also attempts to express ideas beyond basic description, such as “affordable solution” and “threatened.” However, the range is limited by repeated words and phrases, especially “apartments,” “homes,” and “families,” and some combinations are unnatural or imprecise. For example, “preferred apartments more than lands” does not clearly express the intended comparison, and “out of danger than homes” is not idiomatic. Aim for more precise housing vocabulary and natural collocations, such as describing land as expensive or scarce and buildings as secure or well-monitored.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You use both simple sentences and some attempts at complex structures, including “because apartments are more affordable…” and the contrast beginning “However, some families…”. Meaning is generally understandable, but some grammatical errors recur. Subject–verb agreement is incorrect in “It provide shelter” and “this provide access”; the latter also needs a clear noun reference. Other examples include “it become very difficult to care of them” and “families live in homes,” where verb forms or sentence structure are faulty. Articles and plural forms also need attention, as in “a crime” in this context and “more than lands.” Practise checking each sentence for a clear subject and correctly formed verb, and revise complex sentences to ensure their clauses connect accurately.
