Student answer (Band 5.5)

Overpopulation has become a pressing concern in modern world. It is argued that buildind tall apartment blocks is best way to provide enough homes in big cities. I do not completely agree with this proclamation the supportive reasons of which shall be discussed in upcoming crumbs of writing.

To begin with, sharing the reasons to support the need of tall buildings. Primarily, tall apartment provide more houses and cover small piece of land, to explain it seperate houses for each family in city cover large area and in cities there is less land so, the tall apartment blocks are more useful in cities as they cover less space and provide more apartments for individuals. Moreover, the size of population increase in city because of more career oportunities in urban area so many people move in city where everything is expensive and they require place to live. As a result, large number of buildings are required.

Conversely, discussing the reasons to oppose to build large apartment blocks in urban areas. Undoubtedly, it unbalance the budget of govermnt. to explain it, goverment require huge amount of finance to build tall bulding for individuals so, they may need loan from world bank. Furthermore, it damage the environment. In other words, tall buildinds require land for which they chopdown trees as a result the count of trees reduce. Thus these views are enough to oppose the need of large buidings in urban areas.

To conclude, although the tall apartment blocks are required in cities because the size of population increase and it cover less space as compare to house but its negative

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You address both sides of the proposal and state a qualified position: “I do not completely agree.” The points about using less land and accommodating people moving to cities are relevant, as are the concerns about public cost and tree loss. However, the position is not fully explained: the conclusion ends at “but its negative” and does not clarify which drawbacks outweigh the benefits or what your overall judgement is. Several ideas are asserted rather than developed; for example, the claim that construction may require a World Bank loan needs explanation or a more realistic supporting example. Develop each main point with a clear cause, consequence, and example, and make your degree of agreement explicit throughout.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable introduction, two body paragraphs presenting opposing views, and a conclusion, so the reader can identify the broad structure. However, progression within paragraphs is often mechanical: “To begin with,” “Moreover,” “Conversely,” and “Furthermore” announce points without always showing how they connect. Some references are unclear, such as “these views” after the environmental point, and the conclusion does not complete the argument. The opening phrase “the supportive reasons of which shall be discussed” is also awkward and does not clearly preview the essay’s direction. Use simpler, more precise links, group related explanations together, and ensure the final paragraph synthesises the arguments and states your position.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You attempt topic-related vocabulary, including “overpopulation,” “career opportunities,” “urban areas,” and “environment,” and some choices communicate the subject clearly. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, which can make the reader pause. Examples include “upcoming crumbs of writing,” “sharing the reasons,” “unbalance the budget,” and “the count of trees reduce.” Spelling errors such as “buildind,” “goverment,” and “oportunity” are also noticeable. Aim for accurate, natural phrases rather than ornate expressions, and check spelling carefully. Reusing a precise term such as “high-rise apartment buildings” is preferable to switching repeatedly between unclear alternatives.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

There are attempts to use complex sentences, including clauses introduced by “because” and “as a result,” but control is inconsistent and many sentences contain errors. For example, “tall apartment provide more houses and cover small piece of land” has problems with subject–verb agreement and articles, while “the size of population increase” uses an incorrect verb form. Sentence boundaries and punctuation are also unreliable: “Undoubtedly, it unbalance the budget of govermnt. to explain it” begins a new sentence with a lowercase word and leaves the relationship between ideas unclear. The conclusion is incomplete, which also prevents the final sentence from being grammatically complete. Practise accurate simple sentences first, then build longer sentences with controlled clauses and consistent punctuation.
