Student answer (Band 4.5)

Having big houses in the large cities is a trend. There are many ways to provide enough homes, like,by building more houses, making more housing societies and many more. Some people believe that building tall apartments can help in this regard.

Homes are essential for every person.Home is a place when a person came back from job, school or from any work, finds peace in it and can relax on his couch or watch tv and have some rest.Home is the only place, where person can live freely and do whatever he or her likes to do.Having big houses in the large cities like NEW YORK,BRUSSELS,MILAN and many more is the biggest trend in the modern world. Many people people believe that building tall apartments is the best way to provide enough homes.

Though it is true that building tall apartments can provide enough homes. But building tall apartments can lead to destruction as well.It will contribute to environmental pollution.Furthermore,if any natural disasters hit the city,it can destroy many things.Disasters like flash floods, earthquakes and tsunami. If these kinds of events occured,it can destroy the tall buildins including the people less than a second. And the tall buildings will fell because of the natural events and will carry more destructions.Just imagine,if tall building fall,it can fall on the people, who are standing below the building. That will carry great destruction.

In conclusion, tall buildings should not be made, but different housing societies should be created. This idea can be taken in to account for the safety of the people.Homes should be peaceful instead of big.Home is place where you can find peace.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

You give a clear overall view in the conclusion: you oppose tall apartment blocks and prefer “different housing societies.” You also offer a relevant concern about disaster risks. However, the response only partially develops the question of whether high-rise construction is the best way to provide enough homes. The opening mentions alternatives but does not explain how they would supply housing, and the environmental point is asserted rather than supported. The discussion of disasters is repeated and hypothetical, without balancing it against the capacity of apartment blocks to house many people. To strengthen the response, state your position clearly in the introduction and develop two relevant reasons with specific explanation or examples, while acknowledging the housing benefits of building upwards.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

The response has a recognisable introduction, body discussion and conclusion, and the reader can follow the broad shift from the importance of homes to concerns about tall buildings. However, progression is limited: the second paragraph spends considerable space describing what a home means, rather than advancing the argument, and the disaster examples repeat the same point. Linking phrases such as “Furthermore” and “In conclusion” help signal relationships, but connections between claims are often basic or unclear. For example, the environmental concern is not explained before the paragraph moves to natural disasters. Organise the body around distinct reasons, use each paragraph to develop one main idea, and make the links between claims and the position explicit.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

You use basic vocabulary relevant to the topic, including “environmental pollution,” “natural disasters,” and “housing societies,” so the main subject is generally understandable. However, the range is limited and several words or phrases are repeated, particularly “tall apartments,” “building,” and “destruction.” Some choices are inaccurate or unnatural, such as “carry more destructions” and “the biggest trend,” which make parts of the argument harder to interpret. Spelling errors, including “buildins,” also reduce accuracy. Aim for more precise housing and urban-planning vocabulary, and check collocations and spelling. For instance, explain whether high-rise development increases housing capacity, affects green space, or creates risks, rather than relying on repeated general terms.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex forms, including a conditional sentence beginning “if any natural disasters hit the city” and a contrast introduced by “Though.” The overall meaning is usually recoverable, but errors in sentence construction, verb forms, agreement, articles and punctuation are frequent enough to limit control. Examples include “a place when a person came back,” “if these kinds of events occured, it can destroy,” and “the tall buildings will fell.” Several sentences also run together, as in the opening, where spaces after full stops and commas are missing. Practise building accurate subject–verb patterns and conditional sentences, and proofread for sentence boundaries. More reliable control of these forms would make your ideas clearer.
