Student answer (Band 6.0)

Today, building taller buildings is seen as the best way to provide shelter to all the people. As these apartments can accommodate comparatively large number of people. I strong believe that this is the most efficient way to provide enough homes in large cities.

Big cities are now getting over-populated, and the population is still increasing day by day. Most of them have the same problem i.e. limited area. As the area is fixed, all the residents have to share and live in the limited region, increasing the burden to provide home to all and making living conditions severe. Due to this, a large number population reside in outskirts or in nearby towns and cities. As most of them are working in cities, they have to travel daily which increases the pressure on roads and on other public transport services as well. Massive surge in prices can also be seen in main city region as well in the connected parts as well.

As the increasing demand of land can't be fulfilled, the most efficient way to solve this problem is to construct tall buildings. These buildings can hold more people on the same area than a single standalone building. In this was the same population can be concentrated to a relative smaller region, ultimately reducing the rising demand of space and can increase the capacity of city to provide home. That's why, now most of the big cities construct tall buildings and societies.

To conclude, building tall apartment blocks is the best solution to provide homes in large cities as rather than increasing the capacity of the number of homes, it is also helpful in reducing the financial burden on people as well allows more efficient use of area.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

Your position is clear from the introduction: you strongly support tall apartment buildings as an efficient response to housing shortages, and the conclusion restates this view. You address the main issue with relevant points about limited land, population growth, commuting from the outskirts, and the capacity of high-rise housing. However, some points are asserted rather than fully explained. For example, you say tall buildings can reduce the financial burden on people, but do not show how this would happen; similarly, the claim that cities are building more high-rises is not supported with a specific example. Develop these points with a concrete illustration and explain the link between denser housing and affordability or access.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, two body paragraphs that move from the problem to a proposed solution, and a conclusion. This gives the argument a logical progression, and links such as “Due to this,” “As,” and “To conclude” help readers follow the reasoning. The organisation is generally effective, though some connections are mechanical or unclear. The opening fragment, “As these apartments can accommodate comparatively large number of people,” is not smoothly connected to the preceding sentence. In the final body paragraph, “In this was” also interrupts the flow. To strengthen cohesion further, connect cause and effect within complete sentences and use referencing that makes each relationship explicit.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a relevant range of topic vocabulary, including “over-populated,” “limited area,” “public transport services,” “demand of land,” and “capacity.” These choices make the subject clear, and some phrases show an attempt to discuss urban planning beyond basic vocabulary. However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or awkward, which limits precision: “a large number population,” “provide home,” “relative smaller region,” and “financial burden on people as well allows” are examples. “Massive surge in prices” is also vague about which prices are rising. Aim for natural collocations and accurate forms, such as “a large proportion of the population” and “provide housing,” and specify whether you mean rents or property prices.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including clauses beginning with “As” and “Due to this,” and the main argument remains understandable. However, some sentence structures are incomplete or faulty. “As these apartments can accommodate comparatively large number of people” is a dependent clause presented as a sentence, while “In this was the same population can be concentrated…” contains a malformed construction. There are also errors in articles and agreement, as in “a large number population” and “the capacity of city.” Work on completing subordinate clauses, checking singular and plural forms, and using articles consistently. Breaking the longer final sentence into two well-formed sentences would also improve control and clarity.
