Student answer (Band 5.5)

Having a home is one of the needs for any individual or family but, to provide enough homes in large cities there should be tall apartment blocks that should be built. I completely agree with this statement and have strong views regarding it.

Firstly, for any person to have a home is a neccesity and for this need to be fullfilled it also needs to be affordable. Building your own house or renting out a personal house is way too much expensive for majority of the people. So, the best way is to construct tall aparments. As it will not only be affordable for a large number of people but, these apartments can hold many rooms that way more and more people can stay. For instance, building a tall apartment will give us the opportunity to have multiple flats on a particular floor and that way these apartments can be built taller.

Furthermore, if people are ready to construct their own houses then they'll need to find space where they'll build it. To make more space people will eventually cut down tress and cause harm to the environment. This is one of the biggest advantage of building tall apartments, as people can live in these apartments rather than causing deforestation and making their own houses in that place. For example, if any family needs to live and wants a house to live in as there are more people, then they can find apartments which have more rooms, as there are several for them ready to be occupied.

In conclusion, building tall apartment blocks is definetly the best way to provide enough homes in large citites because of reasons like saving environment and apartments being more affordable for people

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

Your position is clear from the introduction: you completely agree that tall apartment blocks are the best solution. You give two relevant reasons—affordability and reducing pressure to clear land—and include examples involving multiple flats and families needing more rooms. However, the explanation is often general or repetitive, and the examples do not show in much detail how high-rise construction provides enough homes more effectively than alternatives. The environmental point also focuses on the harm caused by building individual houses rather than explaining the wider impact of apartment blocks. Develop each reason with a clearer cause-and-effect explanation and a more specific example to make the argument more fully supported.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, two body paragraphs signalled by “Firstly” and “Furthermore,” and a conclusion. The main ideas are generally grouped into the appropriate paragraphs, so the reader can follow the overall argument. However, progression within paragraphs is sometimes unclear: the first example about multiple flats on a floor does not clearly extend the point about affordability, while the second body paragraph repeats the idea of families needing homes and more rooms. Linking phrases such as “So” and “For example” are used, but connections can feel mechanical or imprecise. Make each paragraph follow a clearer sequence—claim, explanation, specific support—and use referencing to avoid repeating the same point.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate the main ideas, including “affordable,” “construct,” “environment,” and “deforestation.” However, the range is limited and several expressions are repetitive or imprecise, such as “a home to live in” and repeated references to “people” and “apartments.” Some word choices and collocations are awkward, including “way too much expensive” and “fullfilled,” while spelling errors such as “neccesity,” “aparments,” “tress,” “definetly,” and “citites” are noticeable. These errors do not prevent the reader from understanding your position, but they reduce precision. Build a wider set of accurate housing and urban-planning terms, and proofread spelling and common word combinations.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more extended sentence forms, and the overall meaning is usually understandable. However, the range is limited, and complex sentences are often not controlled accurately. For example, “but, to provide enough homes … there should be tall apartment blocks that should be built” has awkward clause construction and unnecessary repetition; “As it will not only be affordable …” is a sentence fragment; and “if any family needs to live and wants a house to live in as there are more people” is difficult to follow because the clauses are not clearly connected. There are also errors in articles, agreement, and punctuation, such as “for majority of the people” and commas placed after “but.” Practise complete, clearly structured complex sentences and check clause boundaries.
