Student answer (Band 6.0)

Many think that constructing a high-rise buildings is the most effective way to provide homes in big cities. I partly agree with this view because apartments tend to provide safety and accomodation to a large number of people, while it sometime causes problems over the use of shared places and privacy concerns.

Apartment blocks provide safety to the residents since these projects are mostly built in gated communities with strict security checks. Security gurads properly check the visitors before entering and often require them to show their ID's. As a result, people particularly women and children can feel safe while walking and playing, respectively. Moreover, it can accomodate a large number of people in few buildings. People especially who live on rent can easily find homes. For example, most of the over populated cities are constructing high-rise apartments so that people can feel safe and convenient to live in.

On the other hand, apartments can cause privacy issues among residents. Since, they are very close to one another so family's private matters can easily be heard by neighboring families which can disturb relationships also. Similarly, people also argure on the use of shared place such as rooftop or terrace. People living on top floors often claimed to use terrace alone, because many of them pay additional charges, which causes disputes among people who also want to use the same place. Thus, it causes disagreement among residents and can lead to severe problems.

In conclusion, I partly agree that constructing high rise apartments is the most viable approach as they provide safety and accomodation to large number of people. However, It can sometime cause serious issues among residents over the use of shared spaces and limited privacy concerns.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

Your position is clear: you partly agree, and the response gives reasons both in favour of high-rise housing and against it. The points about security and accommodating many residents are relevant, as are the concerns about privacy and disputes over shared facilities. This addresses the task, but some ideas are more fully explained than others. The security point includes examples of checks and residents feeling safe, while the claim that high-rises are the “most viable approach” is not compared with other ways of providing homes, such as building outward or improving existing housing. The terrace example is specific, but its link to whether tall blocks are the best solution could be made clearer. Develop the comparison and support the main claims with more precise examples.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The essay has a clear overall arrangement: an introduction states your position, two body paragraphs present contrasting arguments, and a conclusion restates your view. Transitions such as “Moreover,” “On the other hand,” and “In conclusion” help readers follow the progression. This organisation is coherent, and the paragraphs each have a recognisable focus. To make the flow more flexible and precise, improve some links between claims and examples. For instance, the example about cities constructing apartments is broad and does not clearly demonstrate the preceding point about safety. Also, “Since” at the start of the privacy sentence is followed by a comma that interrupts the connection. Use clearer referencing and vary transitions so that relationships between ideas are expressed naturally rather than relying mainly on signposting phrases.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use an adequate range of topic vocabulary, including “high-rise apartments,” “gated communities,” “privacy issues,” and “shared places,” so the main ideas are understandable. There are also attempts at more specific language, such as “security checks” and “additional charges.” However, several spelling and word-choice errors reduce precision: “accomodation” and “argure” are misspelled, while “shared place” is less natural than “shared space” in this context. Some phrases are also awkward or repetitive, including “provide safety” and “feel safe and convenient to live in.” Aim for more accurate collocations and a wider range of terms for housing and urban development. Proofreading spelling and choosing natural combinations of words would make the argument sound more controlled.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including clauses introduced by “because,” “since,” and “while.” Most sentences communicate the intended meaning, and the contrast between advantages and disadvantages is generally clear. Some grammatical errors remain. For example, “constructing a high-rise buildings” has a mismatch between the article and plural noun, and “it sometime causes” needs an adverb form and clearer agreement. In “Since, they are very close,” the comma is incorrectly placed after the subordinating conjunction; “people … claimed to use” also shifts tense awkwardly in a general discussion. Review articles, singular/plural agreement, adverb forms, and tense consistency. More accurate control of these patterns, alongside your existing complex sentences, would strengthen the writing.
