Student answer (Band 5.0)

In recent years, many people say the best options to provide enough houses in big cities is to build high apartment blocks. I partially agree with this statement for following the reasons.

To begin with one of the main reasons why I support this idea is that, tall building include many apartment blocks in large cities. Big cities' space places are lemited and very expansive. By building vartically, it is possible to provide housing for hundreds of families on a small plot of land. Moreover, around the tall buildings' may create electric, public transports, water and infrastructures easier and cheap

Furthermore, another crucial factor supporting my stance is that the more people there are in a city with high rice building, the faster the city developes. In other words, the city's facilities create good serveces in ground floor of vertical buildings. By this way, many people move this city

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0

You take a position by saying, “I partially agree,” and give relevant reasons: limited urban land and the possibility of serving residents near apartment buildings. However, the response addresses the question only partially. It does not explain what alternatives to tall blocks might also provide enough homes, which is important to supporting a partial-agreement position, and the point about city development is unclear and not supported with a specific example. The response also falls 101 words short of the required minimum, leaving the argument and examples substantially underdeveloped. To strengthen it, explain both the benefits and limitations of high-rise housing, then support each main point with a clear example and a concluding statement.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a basic structure: an introduction, two body paragraphs, and linking phrases such as “To begin with” and “Furthermore.” These help the reader recognise that you are presenting separate reasons. However, progression within the paragraphs is not always clear. For example, the move from “high rice building” to the city developing faster, then to facilities on the ground floor, needs clearer explanation. The final sentence, “By this way, many people move this city,” does not complete the idea or connect clearly to the preceding point. Use one main idea per paragraph, explain how each reason supports your position, and add a brief conclusion. Check that linking expressions accurately show the relationship between ideas.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some topic-related vocabulary, including “apartment blocks,” “plot of land,” “public transports,” and “infrastructures,” so the subject is generally recognisable. However, the range is limited, and several inaccurate word choices or spellings make parts difficult to understand. Examples include “space places,” “high rice building,” “good serveces,” and “move this city.” Some expressions also do not collocate naturally, such as “create electric” and “provide enough houses.” Aim for precise phrases such as “limited urban land,” “high-rise buildings,” and “essential services.” Proofread spelling and choose words that express the intended meaning; this will make your argument clearer and more convincing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt some longer sentence forms, including “By building vertically, it is possible to provide housing for hundreds of families,” and use clauses beginning with “why” and “that.” However, the range remains limited, and errors occur frequently enough to make several sentences difficult to follow. For example, “the best options … is” has a subject–verb agreement problem, while “tall building include” needs a plural form and matching verb. The sentence beginning “Moreover” lacks a clear grammatical structure, and “the more people there are … the faster the city developes” is not accurately formed. Practise building complete sentences with clear subjects and verbs, and check agreement, articles, and sentence boundaries before submitting.
