Student answer (Band 5.5)
In recent years building tall apartments in large cities to provide enough homes has emerged as a pressing concern for individuals as well as societies and can have far reaching consequences.I partly agree with the statement primarily because it takes less area and is affordable.
I agree with this statement mainly because it occupies less area.To accentuate it, building a home for a single individual may take lot more area than a building. For instance, a specific example of this can be seen in a survey conducted in the UK stated that building almost 75% of the population is residing in tall apartment buildings whereas only 25% of population lives in a house and are likely to cover larger area.Hence this parahgraph justifies my first reason
Furthermore another compelling reason why i agree with the statement is that apartment blocks are affordable for many families. To accentuate it ,nowdays buying a land and building a house can not affordable to a middle class individual and also can be time consuming .Living in an apartment can solve this issue as it provide affordability as well as security. For example , a survey conducted in Canada last year stated that 70% of the middle class families are residing in apartments.
In conclusion, although sometimes an apartment can have bad enviroment but it also provide security, affordability as well as occupies less area which eventually results in more area for other buildings as well.Hence these are the reasons i mainly agree that building tall apartment in larger cities is the best way to provide enough homes.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
Your position is identifiable: you partly agree, and the response gives two relevant reasons—apartments use less land and can be more affordable. The conclusion also returns to your view. However, the task asks whether tall apartment blocks are the best way to provide enough homes, and the response does not fully examine this comparison or explain the qualification in “partly agree.” The examples about surveys in the UK and Canada are presented as statistics but are not explained or connected convincingly to the claim; the UK example is also difficult to interpret. Develop each reason with clearer cause-and-effect reasoning and explain what limits your agreement, such as the need for other housing types or infrastructure.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, two body paragraphs and a conclusion, and the paragraphs broadly separate the two reasons. Linking expressions such as “Furthermore,” “For instance” and “In conclusion” help signal the stages of the argument. However, progression within paragraphs is sometimes mechanical: “To accentuate it” is repeated, and “Hence this paragraph justifies my first reason” announces the point rather than developing it. Some connections are unclear, particularly the UK statistic and the claim that houses cover a larger area. Improve cohesion by explaining how each example supports its topic sentence, using pronouns and transitions precisely, and avoiding repeated formulaic signposting.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use some topic-relevant vocabulary, including “apartment blocks,” “affordability,” “middle class” and “security,” and attempt more formal phrases such as “pressing concern” and “compelling reason.” This gives you enough language to communicate the main ideas, but the range is limited and several choices or forms are inaccurate or unnatural. Examples include “far reaching consequences,” “accentuate it,” “bad environment” and “building a tall apartment.” Spelling errors such as “parahgraph,” “nowdays” and “enviroment” also reduce accuracy. Aim for more natural collocations and precise housing vocabulary, and proofread spelling; for example, describe apartments as “space-efficient” and discuss “housing affordability” rather than repeating general terms.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including a concession in the conclusion (“although sometimes an apartment can have…”) and a reason clause introduced by “because.” The overall meaning is usually recoverable, but errors occur frequently and sometimes make relationships between ideas difficult to follow. For example, “buying a land and building a house can not affordable” is missing a verb structure, while “as it provide” has subject–verb disagreement. There are also problems with articles, plurals and sentence boundaries, as in “a specific example … can be seen in a survey … stated that.” Practise building accurate clauses first, then combine them; check agreement, articles and punctuation when editing.
