Student answer (Band 6.0)

The increase of population in cities makes a daunting problem in the real estate sector of meeting the continious demand of houses for living . In my personal opinion, the best way to build more houses in cities is by stretching space vertically and bulid tall apartments and skyscrapers.

In large cities like the capital of India, Mumbai and many other metropolitan cities, there is a limited area of land for building real estate. People from all over the country come to these big cities with the aspirations, in search of employment etc. This continious immigration of the people inside the city demands for an incline in the number of houses, as with rising population the demand for housing also increase. Many people share their apartment with strangers, some stay in hostels, pg in order to find a place for living as the increase in demand also sores the avergage prices of property and rent which reduces the affordability for the comman man in these cities.

The solution for this is to increase space vertically, that is, by making high rise apartments and skyscrapers with lots of accomodation. This not only solves the main problem of scarcity of land for hosuing in cities, but also provides a solution for increasing the affordability of housing in large cities. Socities with huge vertical apartments can provide home to a large number of people by occuping the same area of land for construction which would otherwise provide home to only a small number of families if the building is constructed small.

In concusion, the increase in demand for housing can be met in large cities by constructing high rise buldings as it is the best solution for meeting the demand for housing, both as an economical and financial perspective.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

Your position is clear from the introduction: you support building upwards as the best response to limited land and rising housing demand. You explain the pressure created by migration to cities and connect high-rise construction with accommodating more residents on the same land. These are relevant reasons, and the conclusion restates your view. However, some points are asserted rather than fully developed. For example, you say vertical development improves affordability, but do not explain how construction costs or rents would fall; this link is not automatic. The discussion also focuses almost entirely on advantages, with little consideration of limitations or other approaches. The response therefore addresses the question clearly, while some ideas need fuller support and qualification.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a coherent overall structure: an introduction states your view, the body paragraphs move from the housing problem to your proposed solution, and the conclusion summarises your position. The progression from limited land and migration to high-rise housing is easy to follow. You also use linking expressions such as “This not only… but also” and “In conclusion” to signal relationships between ideas. At times, however, connections are repetitive or slightly mechanical, particularly the repeated references to increasing demand and housing. Some sentences contain several related points without clearly separating them, and “This” in the solution paragraph could refer more precisely to the land shortage or the housing problem. Clearer transitions and more explicit referencing would make the organisation more flexible.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a relevant range of topic vocabulary, including “real estate sector,” “limited area of land,” “immigration,” “affordability,” and “high-rise apartments.” These choices help communicate the central argument, and there are attempts at less common phrasing such as “scarcity of land.” However, noticeable spelling errors and inaccurate word choices reduce precision: “continious,” “bulid,” “sores,” “avergage,” and “comman” appear, while “incline in the number of houses” is not a natural collocation. Some expressions are also awkward, such as “space vertically” and “from an economical and financial perspective.” Aim for accurate, natural collocations and proofread spelling; this will make your vocabulary more effective without needing unnecessarily complex words.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including a relative clause in “which reduces the affordability” and a contrast structure in “not only… but also.” The main ideas remain understandable, but some grammatical errors recur. For example, “the demand for housing also increase” needs subject–verb agreement, and “demands for an incline” has an awkward grammatical pattern. The opening sentence is difficult to control because several ideas are compressed together, while spacing before punctuation is inconsistent. There are also places where articles or sentence boundaries could be handled more carefully. Work on agreement, clause construction, and punctuation, then check each sentence for a clear subject and verb; this would improve accuracy while preserving your attempts at complex structures.
