Student answer (Band 5.5)

The population of world is increasing day by day and people facing problems to find any good places to live.Especially the problem of accomodation is very common in big cities.I disagree with the statement that constructing tall apartements is only the best way to provide suitable numbers of homes in huge towns.

The issues people having in searching of accomodation in large cities is a topic to debate in almost every developing country.Massive increase in the population of cities is causing the shortage of space for people to live but only providing tall apartment blocks is not the single solution to overcome this problem. Not everyone like to live in apartments alot of people prefer to live in the houses instead of living in small apartments, there are several reasons behind it.By living in apartments of tall buildings can make the social life very limted as people would not be able to have socail intreactions with there neighbours which can provide a bad outcome.People who have join families they can survive in apartments they need spacious houses. There are much better plans in wider ideas that government can implement to solve this problem.Such as,making societies in large cities where people can experince a better life, improve social intreaction and better place for thier families to live happily.People who live in aprtments can face problems like parking, getting eatable things, less space and low social life.construction of tall apartment blocks in big cities need huge invetments and it cause for increased rents of apartment and people struggle in managing their living expensise respectively.

Furthermore, apartments in tall buildings create problems for senior citizens to reach to their floor. Also apartments seems boring for the young adults as they cannot do much activities there due to shortage of the space in the apartments.Apartments proved to be useful for small families or a single individual who is living in another city for work purpose.

In conclusion,I think building tall apartment blooks is not the only best way to provide enough homes in large cities, there are several more better ideas to slove this problem.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

Your position is clear: you disagree that tall apartment blocks are the best way to provide homes, and you acknowledge that they can suit single people or small families. You also give relevant reasons, including limited space, effects on social interaction, and difficulties for older residents. However, the response does not fully develop the alternatives to high-rise housing. For example, “making societies in large cities” is suggested, but it is not explained how this would provide more homes or why it would be more effective. Some claims, such as apartments being boring for young adults, also need clearer support. Develop fewer points with specific explanations or examples, and compare them directly with the benefits of building upwards.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, a main paragraph of reasons, a further paragraph, and a conclusion. The position remains consistent, and “Furthermore” and “In conclusion” help signal progression. However, most of the supporting ideas are crowded into one long paragraph, so the discussion moves quickly from social life to family needs, government plans, parking, costs, and rents. This makes the overall progression difficult to follow. Some links are also unclear, such as the connection between tall buildings and increased rents. Organise each paragraph around one main reason, use clearer topic sentences, and explain how each example supports your position. This would make the cohesion less list-like and more logical.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant topic vocabulary, including “population,” “shortage of space,” “social life,” “senior citizens,” and “living expenses.” These choices show an attempt to discuss housing from several angles. However, the range is limited by repeated use of “apartments,” “problem,” and “people,” while frequent spelling errors and inaccurate word combinations sometimes make the meaning harder to process. Examples include “accomodation,” “apartements,” “social intreactions,” and “huge towns.” Some expressions are also imprecise, such as “eatable things” and “better plans in wider ideas.” Build a more accurate set of housing-related collocations and check spelling carefully; precise wording will help your arguments sound clearer and more formal.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more extended sentence forms, including a contrast with “but” and a reason introduced by “as.” The main ideas are generally understandable, but grammatical control is uneven, particularly in longer sentences. For instance, “The population of world is increasing day by day and people facing problems” lacks an article and a finite verb in the second clause. In “Not everyone like to live in apartments,” the subject and verb do not agree, and several sentences run together without appropriate punctuation. There are also problems with articles, plurals, and sentence boundaries. Practise building accurate complex sentences, and separate each complete idea with suitable punctuation before adding further clauses.
