Student answer (Band 5.0)

In my opionion, I agreed with this statment, that to provide enough homes in large cities, we should built tall apartment blocks, because we can have more houses at a limited land which can reduce the number of homeless peoples as the living expenses decreses. If we built tall buildings, they would get less space and we'll have more space for other things. Other than that if we build aparments, then the peoples who don't have money to buy a house or rent it, they can simply rent an apartment in lesser money. In large cities, peoples generally come from small cities in seek of jobs and some student come for studies, so if we have apartments they can easily rent an apartment in lesser money. In addition to that, if we have tall building than the extra space can be used for useful purposes. If we have tall building, they generally have gyms, playareas and other places where we can go to become physically fit which could be difficult if we have to go there. As a refrence, new york city have tall building as the landarea is very limited so we have apartment because of its population. It would not be ecnomical if we have a seperate house for a family as it covers a large area for limited peoples. As the world population increase, the need for houses also increse, so to overcome this situation we need to have apartments. So at the end, I just want to say that aparments are more better, ecnomical and benifical for cites that seperate houses.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You take a clear position in favour of tall apartment blocks and give relevant reasons, including making better use of limited land, providing lower-cost rentals for students and workers, and offering shared facilities. The New York example also helps connect your argument to a large city. However, the response addresses the issue only partially because several claims are asserted rather than explained: for example, you say apartments reduce homelessness and living expenses, but do not show how this would happen or acknowledge possible drawbacks such as overcrowding. The conclusion repeats your preference without adding much. Develop fewer points with specific explanation or examples, and make clear whether you agree completely or mainly, to make the response more fully supported.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0

The ideas are generally related to your position, but they are presented as one long paragraph, so the reader has little help distinguishing the introduction, supporting points, example and conclusion. Progression is also limited: the discussion moves from land use to affordability, then to facilities and New York, before returning to population growth, with some repetition of the same apartment-benefit claims. Linking phrases such as “Other than that,” “In addition to that,” and “So at the end” are used, but they do not create a clear overall structure. Organise the response into paragraphs, each with one main point, and use references and transitions to show how each point develops from the previous one.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use a basic range of topic vocabulary, including “apartment blocks,” “living expenses,” “population,” and “land area,” and the main ideas are usually understandable. However, vocabulary is repetitive, particularly “tall building” and “apartment,” and several word-choice or spelling errors make the writing less clear or natural: “lesser money,” “more better,” “peoples,” and “ecnonomical” (intended as “economical”). Some phrases are also imprecise, such as “they would get less space,” where the intended meaning appears to be that buildings occupy less land. Build a wider set of accurate housing and urban-planning expressions, and check spelling and collocations so that your meaning is conveyed more precisely.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt some longer sentences using clauses such as “because we can have more houses…” and “so to overcome this situation…,” but the range is limited and complex constructions are often faulty. Errors include “I agreed” for a present opinion, “we should built” instead of “should build,” and “if we built tall buildings, they would get less space,” where the conditional structure and reference are unclear. There are also recurring agreement and article problems, as in “the world population increase” and “new york city have.” These errors sometimes make the reader pause, although the general message remains understandable. Practise accurate present-tense statements, modal verb patterns, subject–verb agreement and sentence boundaries, then proofread each sentence for a clear subject and verb.
