Student answer (Band 6.0)
It is often argued that constructing tall apartments is the greatest way of providing enough homes for people to live in big cities. This essay will discuss the reasons why I strongly agree with this statement.
The primary reason i supprt this view is that there are lot of companies that purchase land to build facilities in large cities which do not give rooms for people to build houses. In other words, building tall apartment will help in this aspect as it will accommodate many families and provide them with roof over their head. For example, in a civilized country where big companies prioritize having branches almost every part of the cities, might end up persuaded house owners to sell their property just for them to build on it.
Another compelling reason why i support this view is that high-rise apartment blocks can make better use of urban infrastructure. When families live in the same area, they can easily access essential services such as schools, public transport and hospitals. This can help reduce road extension into rural areas. For instance, constructing a tall apartment near transport routes would enable residents to commute to work more conveniently.
In conclusion, athough constructing a high-rise apartments as it own drawback I still strongly believe it is an effective way to address housing shortages in large cities. This is because they allow more people to live close to essential services and make efficient use of limited land. Therefore, governments should ensure they provide adequate facilities to meet the residents' needs.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
Your position is clear from the introduction and conclusion: you strongly agree that tall apartments can help address urban housing shortages. Both body paragraphs give relevant reasons, including limited land availability and residents’ access to services. The example about companies buying land supports the first point, while the transport example illustrates the second. However, the first example is difficult to follow, and the link between companies purchasing land and high-rise housing is not fully explained. The discussion also focuses mainly on advantages, with only a brief, undeveloped acknowledgement of drawbacks in the conclusion. To strengthen the response, explain the examples more precisely and develop the qualification or address a potential limitation of apartment blocks.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, two body paragraphs with distinct reasons, and a conclusion. Topic sentences such as “The primary reason” and “Another compelling reason” help readers follow the argument, and examples are generally placed beside the points they support. The progression is therefore easy to recognise, though some connections are mechanical and a few references are unclear. In the first body paragraph, the relationship between companies purchasing land and the need for tall apartments is not made explicit. The conclusion’s opening also combines a concession and the main claim awkwardly. Use clearer links between cause and effect, and make sure pronouns and references point unmistakably to the ideas they represent.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “high-rise apartment blocks,” “urban infrastructure,” “essential services,” and “housing shortages.” These choices show some range beyond basic terms and help communicate the main argument. However, noticeable spelling, word-choice, and collocation problems reduce precision, as in “supprt,” “there are lot of companies,” “provide them with roof over their head,” and “a civilized country.” Some phrases are also unnatural or imprecise, such as “road extension into rural areas” and “as it own drawback.” Aim for accurate, natural combinations and check spelling carefully. More precise terms for land use, housing demand, and urban development would make the argument clearer and more fluent.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt a mix of simple and complex structures, including a relative clause in “companies that purchase land” and a conditional construction in “where big companies prioritize…”. Most of the main ideas remain understandable, but some grammatical errors affect accuracy and occasionally make relationships difficult to follow. For example, “there are lot of companies” is missing a determiner, and “might end up persuaded house owners” has an incorrect verb pattern. The conclusion, “although constructing a high-rise apartments as it own drawback,” is also structurally incomplete, while “a tall apartment” and “their needs” show problems with number or reference. Practise building complete concession clauses and checking articles, agreement, and verb forms in longer sentences.
