Student answer (Band 6.0)

There is no denying the fact that providing enough housing in large cities is a major challenge. While it is a commonly held belief that building tall apartment blocks is the best solution, there is also an argument that other approaches are necessary. In my opinion, I believe that building high-rise apartments is useful, but it should not be the only solution.

To begin with, building tall apartment blocks allows more people to live in a limited area. In other words, this approach makes efficient use of urban land and can reduce housing shortages. For example, large residential buildings can provide homes for hundreds of families on a single plot of land.

Another point to consider is that relying entirely on tall buildings can create other problems. Moreover, some people prefer houses with gardens, and overcrowded apartment blocks may put pressure on public services. For instance, areas with many high-rise buildings need sufficient schools, transport and parking facilities, Also these high building are the on the top list of the places which get harmed in case of a natural deasater for example in case of a medium or strong earth quick shake there is a strong possibility of the building going to fall down quickly and that may cause a large damage financially and physically so it must be a serious studies to enhance and strengthen the buildings.

In conclusion, despite people having different views, I believe that tall apartment blocks are an effective way to provide housing in large cities, but they should be combined with other housing solutions.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

Your position is clear: high-rise apartments are useful, but should not be the only approach. You address both the benefit of using limited urban land and drawbacks of relying solely on tall buildings, with relevant examples such as housing many families on one plot and pressure on schools and transport. This covers the task, but the ideas are not developed equally. The land-use point is explained briefly, while the concerns about services and residents’ preferences need clearer explanation of their effects. The earthquake point is relevant, but its long, unclear explanation weakens its support. To strengthen the response, explain each main reason more fully and connect the examples directly to your position.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction states your view, body paragraphs present benefits and concerns, and the conclusion restates your position. Linking phrases such as “To begin with,” “Another point to consider,” and “In conclusion” help signal the stages of the argument. However, cohesion becomes less controlled in the second body paragraph. “Moreover” introduces another concern, but the paragraph then runs several ideas together, especially in the sentence beginning “Also these high building…”. The relationship between service pressure, natural disasters, and the final recommendation is not clearly signposted. Use separate sentences or paragraphs for distinct points, and make references such as “this approach” or “these buildings” precise.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use an adequate range for the topic, including phrases such as “housing shortages,” “limited area,” “public services,” and “high-rise apartments.” These choices make the main argument understandable, and you attempt more specific language when discussing earthquake risks. However, several word-choice and spelling problems reduce precision, including “high building,” “earth quick shake,” “deasater,” and “large damage.” Some expressions are also awkward or repetitive, such as “there is no denying the fact” and “In my opinion, I believe.” Aim for accurate collocations and more concise phrasing. For example, use “earthquake,” “significant damage,” and “high-rise buildings,” and check spelling carefully, particularly in the longer section.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You use a mix of simple and complex forms, including a concession in “While it is a commonly held belief…” and a conditional structure in “areas with many high-rise buildings need…”. Most of the argument remains understandable, but some grammatical and punctuation errors affect control. The sentence beginning “For instance, areas…” becomes a run-on, with several clauses joined without clear sentence boundaries; “Also these high building are…” also has agreement and plural-form problems. The capital letter in “Also” after a comma is incorrect, and the final clause “so it must be a serious studies” is not grammatically formed. Break long sentences into shorter units and check subject–verb agreement, articles, and punctuation.
