Student answer (Band 5.5)
Nowadays, there have been a lot of housing developments being built in the large cities. I greatly support this because, it will give more individual and family access to an affordable housing. This essay will discuss some of my point of view regarding this topic.
There's a lot of advantages of building more apartment blocks for the community. To name a few, it can help some people feel secured and protected, knowing that they have a safe place to stay. Moreover, the benefits of building more apartment is making it more affordable for some people who cannot buy a bigger place. This can also help less fortunate people who depends on subsidized housing.People who just came to the country as a new immigrant that needed a place withe a closer vicinity from their workplace can also benefit in living in the apartment. Another reason is that , there are some people that prefers living in an apartment than in a house because of low maintenance and expenses. It is also one way of reducing stress for some people who are not qualified enough to buy a mortgage. Renting a unit in an apartment is more convenient for some people who is also living here temporarily. For some , renting is the best way to save money in buying their future home.
In conclusion,I believe that if our goverment gives the public more access to affordable housing, it will give people more chance of having a secure and better life. With the growing population, the demand of housing in our country will not be compromise.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
Your position is clear: you support building more apartment blocks, and you give relevant reasons such as affordability, access to subsidised housing, and lower maintenance costs. These points show an understanding of the housing issue. However, the response only partly addresses the specific claim that tall apartment blocks are the best way to provide enough homes in large cities. Much of the discussion concerns the general advantages of apartments or renting, rather than why high-rise construction is especially effective or whether other approaches might be better. Several points, including the benefits for immigrants and temporary residents, are listed but not explained with examples or consequences. Develop fewer reasons in more depth and connect each directly to the question.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a recognisable introduction, a main body, and a conclusion, and the ideas are generally related to housing. Linking expressions such as “Moreover,” “Another reason,” and “In conclusion” help signal movement between points. However, the main body reads largely as a sequence of separate advantages, with limited progression or grouping; several sentences repeat the idea that apartments are affordable or convenient. Some connections are also unclear, particularly the shift from subsidised housing to new immigrants and then to temporary renters. Organise the body around two or three central reasons, explain each in a focused paragraph, and use referencing or transitions to show how examples support the main argument rather than simply adding another point.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “affordable housing,” “subsidized housing,” “low maintenance,” and “mortgage,” so the reader can follow the general subject. However, the range is limited by repeated use of broad terms such as “people,” “place,” and “apartment,” and some word combinations are inaccurate or awkward. For example, “a closer vicinity from their workplace” and “buy a mortgage” do not express the intended meanings naturally; “nearer to their workplace” and “qualify for a mortgage” would be more suitable. There are also spelling and word-form slips, such as “goverment” and “compromise” where “compromised” is needed. Aim for more precise housing-related vocabulary and check collocations carefully.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more extended sentence forms, including a relative clause in “people who just came to the country” and a reason clause beginning “knowing that.” However, control is inconsistent, and errors occur in basic agreement, articles, verb forms, and sentence boundaries. Examples include “there’s a lot of advantages,” “people who depends,” and “some people that prefers”; these subjects require plural verb forms. Article use is also inaccurate in “an affordable housing,” while “building more apartment is” needs a plural noun and a clearer construction. Punctuation and spacing are uneven, and the body contains a run-on sequence of ideas. Practise accurate subject–verb agreement and build shorter, clearly punctuated sentences before adding more complex structures.
