Student answer (Band 6.0)
Providing basic necessities of life is undeniably a major concern for the government of a progressive nation, which includes food, clothes, and shelter. Some people believe that the best way to provide enough homes in large societies is to build tall apartment blocks. This essay intends to discuss my perspective along with suitable arguments in the subsequent paragraphs.
I firmly agree with the view that building tall apartment blocks provides homes to a large number of citizens. It deals with the leading issue of accommodation in big cities. For instance, most people from smaller areas, rural areas, or nearby smaller cities migrate to big cities in search of jobs, but before that, they need accommodation to fulfill the basic requirements of their lives. Moreover, finding homes in large cities is a hard nut to crack.
Further enhancing my views, people living in apartment blocks are able to socialize more with different cultures and traditions of nearby residents. It enhances their social perspectives. Additionally, it also widens their mental horizons about various things. A survey conducted by a prestigious newspaper in Britain reveals that people who live in apartment blocks have more awareness of new developments in life.
However, it is believed that building tall apartment blocks only causes deforestation since the government engages in deforestation activities to provide shelter for humans, as this whole concept is against wildlife. There is no need for further housing. Moreover, people already have their homes. It is only their choice to leave their homes and migrate to cities to lead a lavish lifestyle.
Overall, different people have different notions regarding the statement, but I have sound reasons to advocate that building tall apartment blocks in big cities has more benefits

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
Your position is clear: you firmly agree that tall apartment blocks can provide homes for many city residents, and you give relevant reasons, including migration for work and the difficulty of finding accommodation. The point about residents encountering different cultures is also relevant, but its link to providing enough homes is not fully explained. The opposing paragraph raises deforestation and argues that people already have homes, yet it does not clearly show how these points affect the housing shortage or weigh them against your position. As a result, the response addresses the question but develops some parts more fully than others. To strengthen it, explain the practical housing benefits and address the environmental concern with a specific comparison or solution. (Nine words copied from the task prompt were not counted.)
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, supporting paragraphs, a counterargument and a conclusion. Ideas generally progress in a sensible order, and signposts such as “Moreover,” “Additionally” and “However” help readers follow the discussion. However, some linking is mechanical, and the relationship between ideas is occasionally unclear. For example, “Further enhancing my views” introduces social benefits without clearly connecting them to the central issue of housing supply. The counterargument also moves abruptly from deforestation to the claim that people already have homes. Use clearer topic sentences and explain the connection between each supporting point and your position; this would make the overall progression more consistent and cohesion less dependent on formulaic transitions.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of vocabulary for the topic, including “accommodation,” “migrate,” “social perspectives” and “deforestation.” There are also attempts at less common expressions, such as “a hard nut to crack” and “widen their mental horizons.” However, some choices are imprecise or unnatural in this context: “large societies” is not a clear substitute for large cities, and “fulfill the basic requirements of their lives” is wordy. “Progressive nation” and “lavish lifestyle” also do not add much precision to the housing argument. These choices do not prevent understanding, but more accurate collocations and less reliance on broad or idiomatic phrases would make the argument clearer and more appropriately academic.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including a relative clause in “people who live in apartment blocks” and a concession introduced by “However.” Most sentences are understandable, and grammatical errors rarely obstruct the message. Some sentence structures are awkward or incomplete in their logic, though. For example, “There is no need for further housing” is presented without a clear grammatical or argumentative connection to the preceding point, while “Overall, different people have different notions … but I have sound reasons” is followed by a conclusion that feels unfinished. The opening sentence also uses a long construction that makes the relationship between the examples and “necessities” less clear. Aim for more controlled complex sentences and check that each clause expresses a complete, clearly connected idea.
