Student answer (Band 5.0)

Nowadays we observe that many people from small rural areas are shifting to large urban areas or large cities for job opportunities.Large cities has a lot of job opportunities for many people.

But as people are migrating to cities the main problem that arises is housing. It is very concerning problem as most of the time many of the indivisual and families prefer to have their own house. So they have a thought of building their own house. This may lead to shortage of land and at a certain period people will not be able to accomodate in the city.

In my opinion cities should have tall apartment blocks which are spacious, affordable and accomodable. This might have a positive impact in many ways .The people will be able to live there peacefully and as there are affordable appartments the people will not prefer to build their own house and the city wont be congested .

On the contrary,by building tall apartments this can be very harmful as if there is situation like earthquake or tsunami this might cause a large destruction to human life as well as economy. So I do not agree with this idea to a long extent.

The statement given above may prove true in many ways but it also has some drawbacks .But on abiding with it we can achieve it successfully

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You address the topic and give a position, but it is not fully consistent: you first support tall apartment blocks as affordable and space-saving, then say, “I do not agree with this idea to a long extent.” The earthquake and tsunami concern is relevant, but it is asserted rather than explained or supported with an example. The discussion also focuses on migration and the desire to own houses without comparing tall blocks with other ways to provide homes. The response is 29 words below the required minimum, which limits the space available to develop your reasons. State clearly whether you agree, disagree, or partly agree, then explain and support each main reason.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, discussion of housing pressure, a paragraph supporting apartments, a counterpoint, and a conclusion. This gives the reader some organisation. However, the progression is not consistently clear because the position shifts from supporting apartment blocks to saying you do not agree with them, and the final sentence does not resolve that conflict. Connections such as “But” and “On the contrary” are used, but the latter introduces a risk without clearly relating it to the earlier argument. Some ideas are also repeated, particularly the points about migration and housing shortages. Use each paragraph to develop one clear reason and make the conclusion restate a consistent position.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use relevant topic vocabulary, including “job opportunities,” “housing,” “shortage of land,” and “earthquake,” so the main subject is generally clear. However, the range is limited and some word choices or forms are inaccurate, such as “accomodable,” “appartments,” and “congested” in the context of describing the city. Repeated general terms such as “people,” “city,” and “building” also make the argument less precise. Aim for accurate collocations and a wider range of housing-related language, for example, “high-density housing,” “residential space,” and “urban population.” Proofread spelling carefully, and choose words that express the intended meaning rather than relying on similar-sounding forms.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more extended sentences, including a conditional idea beginning “if there is situation like earthquake or tsunami.” However, complex structures are often faulty, and errors occur frequently enough to make the writing less smooth. For example, “Large cities has” has a subject–verb agreement error, while “as people are migrating to cities the main problem that arises is housing” needs clearer punctuation and sentence structure. Articles and plurals are also inconsistent, as in “there is situation” and “many of the individual and families.” Use shorter, controlled sentences when needed, and check agreement, articles, plural forms, and punctuation before adding more complex clauses.
