Student answer (Band 6.0)
The optimum method to give adequate amount of houses in big cities is to construct high-rise building structures. The skyscrapers can benefit a city by providing more opportunities for economic growth with adequate amount of recreational activities, however, these structures can also destroy the system of providing the basic utilities to the locals of a city.
Taking note of the growing population in many countries, the governments have taken steps to accomodate people in densely populated cities by allowing the construction of tall buildings to ensure economic growth is possible. One of the major reasons to have such structures is, that these buildings takes lesser space and provides more homes to the people so that the locals can live easily in their cities. For example, NewYork city is highly populated and it would have been impossible to accomodate so many people on that land if tall buildings were not built. The US government allowed such structures that can facilitate a lot of people ensuring the economic growth which is very evident as many articles have been published about it. Adding on, these structures helps the governments in managing the infrastructure of the city and maintaing the recreational activities since they take lesser space. For instance, smaller compunds or cottages would have taken more space in which many parks would have converted into residential or commercial places but the tall buildings have helped the governments to provide sufficient recreational activities to the locals.
In contrast, these high-rise buildings have negatively affected the availability of basic necessities and utilities like water, gas and electricity supply in many areas around the world. For example, Karachi is highly populated having the skycrapers all over the city but half of the city is deprived of basic utilies that should be provided to every household by the government.
I agree to the idea that the ideal way to give enough houses in large cities is to allow the construction of high-rise that takes lesser land and provide enough amount of homes to the people that can help government in improviding the economical conditions of a city and benefitting the locals by giving recreational activities.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
Your position is clear: you agree that high-rise housing is an effective way to accommodate people in large cities. You give relevant reasons, including using less land, supporting economic growth and preserving space for recreation, and the New York example helps illustrate the point. You also acknowledge a drawback through the discussion of water, gas and electricity in Karachi. However, this counterpoint is brief and its connection to whether tall blocks are the “best way” is not fully explained. Some claims, such as the link between skyscrapers and economic growth, are asserted rather than supported. Develop both sides more evenly and explain how infrastructure planning could address the disadvantage.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, a paragraph supporting high-rise construction, a contrasting paragraph, and a conclusion. The progression from benefits to a drawback is easy to follow, and signposts such as “For example,” “Adding on,” and “In contrast” help guide the reader. This gives the essay coherent organisation, while some linking is still mechanical or imprecise. The Karachi paragraph, for instance, introduces a relevant concern but does not explain how it affects your overall position. The conclusion repeats several points from the first body paragraph rather than synthesising the discussion. Use clearer references between ideas and develop the contrast before returning to your judgement.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use a reasonable range of topic vocabulary, including “high-rise,” “densely populated,” “basic utilities,” “infrastructure” and “recreational activities.” These choices make the subject clear, and some less common terms are attempted. However, word choice and collocation are often inaccurate or repetitive: “give adequate amount of houses,” “takes lesser space,” and “providing ... utilities” do not sound natural in context. There are also spelling errors, including “accomodate,” “maintaning” and “utilies,” which reduce accuracy. Aim for more precise housing and urban-planning expressions, and check spelling carefully. Replacing repeated phrases such as “tall buildings” with suitable alternatives would also improve flexibility.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including a contrastive opening with “however” and a conditional example beginning “if tall buildings were not built.” Most of the meaning remains understandable, but some errors in agreement, articles and sentence construction affect accuracy. For example, “these buildings takes” should use a plural verb, while “these structures helps” has the same agreement problem. In “One of the major reasons ... is, that,” the comma is unnecessary, and the clause is awkwardly formed. The final sentence also contains several linked ideas that are difficult to control. Review subject–verb agreement and practise dividing long sentences into clearer clauses while retaining a mix of structures.
