Student answer (Band 6.0)

Everyone wants to have a house that they can call home. In this sense every one wants to own or build a house for themselves. If every single person starts building their own house eventually all land will become housing land, the other solution is to build tall apartment's which can help in housing crisis young adults are facing today.

According to my opinion building tall apartment blocks is really suitable for today's busy life. One of the reason is apartment blocks occupy less space than a housing society and can provide accomodation to same number of people or families. It also gives a sense of community to people living in the same apartment block.

The other reason is our cities are expanding at a rapid rate causing shortage of land for the agricultural sector. Shortage of land can cause food scarcity in the future. An example of this is Islamabad city in Pakistan. People have continued to construct new house and buildings around the city to the point that nowadays there does not seems to be a difference between Rawalpindi and Islamabad. The other example is Lahore city where instead of building tall apartments people continued building housing societies on the land of Ravi river which results in destruction and havoc every moonson season.

My personal opinion is that building tall building apartments in big cities is much more suitable. It reduces the cost and is much more affordable for the middle classes in big cities. In this way land will also be available for agriculture and other activities.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

Your position is clear: you support tall apartment blocks as a practical response to limited urban land. You address the prompt with relevant reasons, including space efficiency, affordability, community, and protecting agricultural land, and the examples of Islamabad and Lahore help ground the discussion. This meets the task well, while showing some of the stronger development expected at the next level. However, several points are asserted rather than fully explained: for example, the claim that apartments reduce costs could be supported by explaining how shared land or infrastructure lowers housing prices. The community benefit is also mentioned briefly without an example. Develop each main reason with a clearer explanation and evidence to make the argument more consistently persuasive.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable overall structure: an introduction, a paragraph presenting reasons and examples, and a concluding statement that restates your view. Ideas generally progress from land use to city growth and then affordability. Linking phrases such as “One of the reason,” “The other reason,” and “An example of this” make the relationships visible, but their repeated, formulaic use can make the flow feel mechanical. The long middle paragraph also combines several distinct points, including agricultural land, Islamabad, and Lahore, so the reader has to follow multiple shifts without paragraph breaks. Group related ideas into separate paragraphs and use clearer references between claims and examples to strengthen progression.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate your argument, including “housing crisis,” “shortage of land,” “agricultural sector,” and “food scarcity.” These choices show an attempt to use language suited to urban development, but the range is uneven and some collocations or forms are inaccurate. For instance, “housing land” and “building tall building apartments” are awkward, while “construct new house” does not express the intended idea naturally. There are also spelling errors such as “accomodation” and “moonson.” These do not prevent understanding, but they limit precision and control. Build a bank of accurate phrases for housing and urban planning, and check spelling and word forms during revision.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and complex sentences, including conditional and cause-and-effect structures: “If every single person starts building their own house…” and “Our cities are expanding at a rapid rate causing shortage of land…” This gives the response some variety, and the main meaning is generally clear. However, errors in agreement, articles, plurals, and sentence construction remain noticeable. Examples include “One of the reason,” “there does not seems to be,” and “People have continued to construct new house.” The opening also joins independent ideas with a comma, and punctuation around longer sentences is sometimes unclear. Practise checking subject–verb agreement and singular/plural forms, and divide long sentences where needed to improve accuracy.
