Student answer (Band 5.0)
Home is a place where families begin, where love is in the air, a person feels free and can have peace. Life in cities is all but peaceful due to noise pollution , overpopulation and people usually live busy life in cities. Building a home in a city can be difficult. You get little sapce for your love to fit in especially with large families building a home in city is expensive. Therefore majority of people live in apartments in cities.Tall buildings coverup the whole city in which small apartmnet blocks are made to fit in families and provide home to people in need. Building tall apartment blocks is the only suitable option in a city considering the lack of space and price of fully furnished houses. With increase in economy living in a apartment block is way better. The rush of people in cities has increased due to more opportunities available to grab therefore I fully aggree that building tall apartment blocks in great idea to give people homes but to some extent it can have some disadvantages such as lack of greenery, trees and less space for people to walk.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You take a clear position, stating that you “fully agree” with tall apartment blocks, and you give relevant reasons: limited urban space, housing costs and the growth of city populations. You also acknowledge disadvantages, including reduced greenery and walking space. However, the response addresses the task only partially because these points are mostly asserted rather than explained or supported with a specific example. The claim that apartment living is “way better” is not clarified, and the disadvantages are not weighed against your position. The response is also 58 words below the required minimum, which limits the space available to develop your argument. Explain how high-rise housing can accommodate more households and add a concrete example or comparison.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0
There is a basic line of argument: you introduce city-life pressures, explain why housing is difficult, then state your agreement and mention drawbacks. Linking words such as “Therefore” and “but” help show some relationships between ideas. However, the response is presented as one long paragraph, so the stages of the argument are not clearly separated. Several ideas run together—for example, the discussion of limited space, large families and expense—making progression difficult to follow. Some connections are also unclear, such as “With increase in economy” and how this supports apartment living. Use separate paragraphs for your position, supporting reasons and qualification, and make each paragraph develop one main point with clear links.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some relevant topic vocabulary, including “overpopulation,” “noise pollution,” “lack of space” and “lack of greenery,” which helps communicate the subject. There is also an attempt to express a personal view and acknowledge a counterpoint. However, the range is limited and several word choices or spellings make the writing less clear or natural, such as “sapce,” “apartmnet,” “coverup” and “fit in families.” Phrases such as “love is in the air” and “way better” are informal or imprecise for this essay. Aim for accurate, formal collocations—for example, describe buildings as “accommodating households” and refer to “urban housing demand.” Proofreading spelling and choosing more precise expressions would strengthen clarity.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple statements and longer sentences, including a sentence that gives a reason with “due to” and one that contrasts agreement with disadvantages using “but.” However, the range is limited, and complex sentences are often not controlled accurately. Examples include “people usually live busy life,” “With increase in economy living in a apartment block is way better,” and “I fully aggree that building tall apartment blocks in great idea.” These show problems with articles, plural forms and sentence construction. Punctuation is also inconsistent: the opening contains a comma splice, and spaces before commas appear in “pollution ,”. Practise building clear sentences with accurate articles and agreement, and use full stops to separate complete ideas.
