Student answer (Band 6.0)
In many large cities around the world, there is aswear shortage of housing. some people believe that constructing high rise apartment buildings is the most effective solution to the said problem. I braodly agree with this opinion, although i believe high rises must be well planned. Building structure should be aesthetically designed and providing storage capacity as well. High quality building materials should be used that can bear shocks and stand tall.
The main reason to build tall apartment blocks in urban areas in the scarcity of land. major cities like london, Tokyo, Lahore Karachi can not further expanded horizontally. As land in surrounding areas od the cities is already occupied. Vertical buildings allow asingle plot of land to accomodate a larger no of families instead of just one. for example a 20 story building 1000 square meters can provide homes for 80 families, wheraas same land would only fit 4 or 5 separate houses. This is the need of time to effectively use land resources to benefit greater number of masses. The efficient use of land provides solution to accomodate a rapidly growing population.
Further more tall blocks are more economical and sustainable. When many people live ina building they share some utilities and pathways it brings cheaper cost of living, it is cheaper for the government to provide services at low budget.Tall buildings in central and reachable city areas reduce commute time and fuel economy also possible. houses in the outskirts of the city encourages urban sprawl, cause traffic congestion and environmental damage.
High rise buildings may have some drawbacks. it brings lack of privacy and green areas. Parking problems are common and sanitary issues also arise frequently, but this flaw can be covered by good design.
in conclusion i would say tall buildings may have some disadvantages but bring more convenience and they are economical.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
Your position is clear from the introduction: you broadly agree that high-rise housing is an effective response, while noting that it needs good planning. You address the main question with relevant reasons, including limited land, the number of households that can be accommodated, shared services, and reduced commuting. The comparison between a 20-storey building and separate houses is a useful example. This meets the task well, and the planning caveat shows some nuance. However, several points are asserted rather than fully explained: for instance, the claims about lower living costs and fuel savings would be stronger with a clearer account of how these benefits arise. The drawbacks paragraph is also brief. Develop these ideas further to make the argument more consistently convincing.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a coherent overall structure: an introduction, two paragraphs supporting high-rise housing, a paragraph acknowledging drawbacks, and a conclusion. The progression from land scarcity to economic and environmental benefits is generally logical, and phrases such as “For example” and “In conclusion” help signal the argument. However, some connections are mechanical or unclear. The opening of the second supporting paragraph, “Further more tall blocks are more economical and sustainable,” introduces several claims without clearly linking them to the previous point. Some sentences also run together, while the drawbacks paragraph moves quickly from privacy to parking and sanitation. Use clearer sentence boundaries and develop one connected line of reasoning within each paragraph; this would make the progression easier to follow.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of topic vocabulary, including “scarcity of land,” “urban sprawl,” “traffic congestion,” and “environmental damage.” These choices help communicate relevant ideas, and terms such as “accommodate” and “sustainable” show an attempt to use more formal language. However, spelling and word-choice errors occur in several places, including “aswear,” “braodly,” “wh eraas,” and “od,” which reduce accuracy and polish. Some expressions are also imprecise or unnatural, such as “fuel economy also possible” and “benefit greater number of masses.” Aim for accurate spelling and more natural collocations, for example, “reduce fuel consumption” and “benefit a larger proportion of the population.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including a conditional idea in “although I believe high rises must be well planned” and a comparison using “whereas.” The main meaning is generally understandable, but some grammatical errors recur. Examples include “the scarcity of land” after “the main reason … is,” “cities … can not further expanded,” and “houses in the outskirts … encourages,” where verb forms or agreement are inaccurate. Articles and sentence boundaries also need attention, as in “a 20 story building 1000 square meters” and the lower-case sentence beginnings after full stops. These errors do not usually prevent understanding, but they limit control. Practise complete sentence patterns, subject–verb agreement, and accurate use of articles and punctuation.
