Student answer (Band 6.0)

There is a claim that constructing high-rises is essential to meet people's housing purposes in large cities. I completely agree with that for some reasons.

One reason is that they save the limited space. Because a tall block can hold, and provide residents with a large number of flats, and even other facilities, being more effective than grounded houses, despite a much smaller space in size. While a grounded house meet demand for commonly just a family, the number of households inhabiting in a tall block is much higher. In fact, that has been now applied as an urban expansion plan in many big cities. It is obvious that there is a common trend in building, many campaigns or companies focus on transitting from tradional flats to skyscrapers to reflex and provide more space for housings as well.

Another reason for building more tall blocks in urban areas is immigration. To be more specific, many people from countrysides immigrate to cities, where opportunities for educations, jobs, healthcare, and others are available, to change their lives. As a result, the prices of housing are high, beacuse of the shortage of accomodations. Therefore, tall blocks are the solution to deal with the growing problems. Real examples for that has been obviously worldwide, from immediate cities such as Ho Chi Minh City to larger cities like New York or Tokyo.

Ultimately, construction of skyscrapers or tall blocks is the best way now to make chance for people to buy houses and improve problems about housing

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

Your position is clear from the opening: you completely agree that tall apartment blocks are an effective way to meet housing needs in large cities. You give two relevant reasons—using limited land efficiently and accommodating people moving from rural areas—and the references to Ho Chi Minh City, New York and Tokyo help illustrate the issue. However, the support is uneven: the first reason is repeated in several forms, while the examples are named rather than explained, and the conclusion introduces little beyond the main claim. To strengthen the response, explain how high-rise construction increases the supply of affordable homes, and develop a specific example. You could also acknowledge a limitation, such as the need for transport and services, while maintaining your position.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable overall structure: an introduction, two body paragraphs organised around separate reasons, and a concluding statement. Signposting such as “One reason,” “Another reason,” and “As a result” makes the main progression easy to follow. At times, however, connections are mechanical or unclear. The first body paragraph moves from space-saving to a general claim about building campaigns without showing precisely how that point supports the argument. The sentence beginning “Because a tall block…” is also left as a fragment, interrupting the flow. Use clearer links between each claim and its explanation, and make references such as “that” explicit. A more focused paragraph structure, with one developed point and example in each body paragraph, would improve progression.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a relevant range of topic vocabulary, including “high-rises,” “urban expansion,” “immigrate,” “shortage,” and “accommodations,” which helps communicate the subject. There are also attempts at more specific language, although some choices are inaccurate or unnatural and reduce precision: “housing purposes,” “grounded houses,” “transitting,” and “make chance” do not express the intended ideas idiomatically. Spelling errors such as “tradional,” “beacuse,” and “countrysides” also affect the impression of control. Aim to learn common collocations for housing and urban development, and check spelling carefully. More precise wording would let you express your relevant ideas without changing their meaning.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mix of simple and complex structures, including a conditional-style contrast with “While…” and a cause-and-effect sentence beginning “As a result.” The main argument is generally understandable, but some grammatical errors occur in both sentence construction and agreement. For example, “Because a tall block can hold…” is a dependent clause presented as a sentence, while “a grounded house meet” needs subject–verb agreement. In “Real examples for that has been…,” the plural subject does not agree with the verb. Some sentences also contain awkwardly joined clauses, as in the opening of the first body paragraph. Practise forming complete sentences and checking agreement, articles, and clause boundaries; this will make your varied structures more controlled.
