Student answer (Band 6.0)
With the emerging population, the demand for housing is growing dramatically. I completely agree with the fact that there must be tall apartment blocks in large cities to fulfill requirements of individuals regarding their residence.
I strongly believe that only tall buildings can resolve this vicious issue, as less space will be required for such buildings. Moreover, it is better to build a vertical building rather than a horizontal one. Furthermore, horizontal buildings require more space, and most of them have only one to two floors, which make it diificult to adjust maximum number of people. Agriculture land is getting compromised in my countries, due to enormous increase in their population statistics. For instance, in India, the growing population forced them built tall apartment blocks, because they were getting out of space and most of their land was occuiped. It helped them in various ways, they developed a great connection with their neighbors. In addition, it is convenient to manage such appartments. In a long term, they get benefited, because they are utilizing their agricultural land appropriately, without a fear that soon those places will become residencial areas.
On the other hand, some people argue that tall buildings have less capacity to withstand earthquakes and natural diasters. However, if there is a strong infrastructure and development, it will be difficult to destroy such buildings. In my opinion, tall apartments benefits outweigh its disadvantages. Moreover, it is a solely way to protect land for agriculture purposes and to reduce population burden.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
Your position is clear from the introduction: you completely agree that tall apartment blocks are needed, and you return to this view in the conclusion. You give relevant reasons, especially that vertical housing uses less land and can help preserve agricultural areas, and you acknowledge the counterargument about earthquakes. The India example also supports your main point. This meets the task well, but some claims are asserted rather than fully explained: for example, the benefits of neighbour connections and easier management are mentioned without showing how they follow from high-rise living. The disaster response is also brief. Develop these points with specific explanation or evidence to make the argument more consistently convincing.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, a main paragraph supporting high-rise housing, a counterargument, and a concluding position. Ideas generally follow a sensible order, and linking expressions such as “Moreover,” “For instance,” and “On the other hand” help signal relationships. However, the main body places several distinct points—land use, agriculture, neighbour connections, and management—together, so the progression is not always easy to follow. Some transitions are mechanical, and “In addition” and “Moreover” recur without always clarifying how the next point develops the previous one. Use separate paragraphs for the main argument and counterargument, and make references such as “they” and “those places” more precise.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use a relevant range of topic vocabulary, including “demand for housing,” “agricultural land,” “infrastructure,” and “population burden.” These choices communicate the subject and show attempts to use less common language. However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or awkward, such as “emerging population,” “fulfill requirements of individuals regarding their residence,” and “out of space.” Spelling errors, including “diificult,” “occuiped,” “appartments,” and “diasters,” also reduce accuracy. Aim for natural, precise phrases and check spelling carefully; for example, describe population as “growing” and say that cities are “running out of space.” This would make the argument clearer and more fluent.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including a reason clause with “as” and a concession introduced by “On the other hand.” Most of the meaning remains understandable, but some grammatical errors affect accuracy. For example, “which make it difficult” has a subject–verb agreement problem, while “forced them built” needs a different verb pattern. There are also issues with articles, plurals, and agreement in “a solely way” and “tall apartments benefits.” Some long sentences combine several ideas, making control harder. Practise checking subject–verb agreement and verb patterns, and divide sentences when they contain multiple claims. More consistently accurate complex sentences would strengthen this criterion.
