Student answer (Band 6.0)
To provide enough residential space in large cities, some people suggest to build vertical apartment buildings. I totally agree with this statement as it solves the key problem as well as provide other benefits like more cost effective human resources to big cities and keep environment safe.
Tall buildings accomodate more people in big cities which helps society in multiple ways. For example, if construction only happens horizentially, it will extand cities to long which will eventually decrease space for agriculture and exactly this is happening in Palistan whose financial back bone is agriculture as a result food prices are increasing.
Another benefit of tall apartment blocks is reduced fuel travelling cost in big cities. Right now as fuel prices are above 100 dollors and almost 2nd biggest cost in individual's life is travelling after rent. So big residentials blocks resolves both these cost problems. As tall buildings can be build in the middle of the city which eventually decrease travelling cost as well as decreases rental cost by adjusting more prople in small area.
Some people argue that they dont want to invest their capital in tall buildings as real estate is generational wealth and they only want to invest in land for future gernerations but i would say as per average building life is more then 100 years so it give more cost benefits in long run then solid land investment if we think practically.
In conclusion, I would say tall apartment blocks are the ultimate solution of todays residential crises and governments should play their role in facilitating it in long term.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
Your position is clear from the introduction: you strongly support tall apartment blocks, and the conclusion restates this view. You give relevant reasons, including preserving agricultural land and reducing travel costs, and you address an opposing view about investing in land. These points show a sound response to the task. However, some support is less fully developed: the claim that apartment blocks reduce rent is asserted rather than explained, and the Pakistan example would be more persuasive with a clearer link between urban expansion and rising food prices. The counterargument is also answered briefly. To strengthen the response, explain the mechanisms behind each benefit and develop the opposing view before rebutting it.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The essay has a clear overall structure, with an introduction, separate paragraphs for supporting reasons, a counterargument, and a conclusion. The progression from land use to travel costs and then to the opposing view is easy to follow. Linking phrases such as “For example,” “Another benefit,” and “In conclusion” help signal the stages of the argument. At times, however, connections are mechanical or unclear. In the first body paragraph, the move from horizontal expansion to food prices needs an explicit explanation, while “So” and “which eventually” carry several ideas in the travel-cost paragraph without clearly showing their relationships. Use more precise referencing and transitions, and organise each paragraph around one claim followed by explanation and evidence.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use vocabulary relevant to housing and urban development, including “residential space,” “agriculture,” “fuel,” “real estate,” and “generational wealth.” This gives you enough range to communicate the main argument, and some phrases show an attempt to be specific. However, inaccurate word choice, collocation, word forms, and spelling are noticeable and sometimes make the meaning less clear. Examples include “cost effective human resources” where the intended benefit is unclear, “extand cities to long,” and “solid land investment.” There are also repeated references to “tall buildings” and “cost.” Aim for natural collocations and check spelling carefully; choosing precise, familiar expressions is more effective than using an ambitious phrase inaccurately.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including conditional and relative clauses, as in “if construction only happens horizontally” and “which will eventually decrease space for agriculture.” The overall meaning is generally understandable, but errors in verb forms, agreement, articles, and sentence construction recur. For example, “it solves … as well as provide” does not maintain parallel verb forms, and “tall buildings can be build” uses an incorrect passive form. The long sentence beginning “Right now as fuel prices…” also lacks clear grammatical control and punctuation. Work on accurate subject–verb agreement, passive constructions, and sentence boundaries, then proofread each sentence. More reliable control of these patterns would make your varied structures easier to follow.
