Student answer (Band 6.0)

Living in a high-rise building is becoming extremely common nowdays. Therefore individuals belive that, the most effective approach to provide sufficient housing in major cities is to build high-rise apartment blocks.while I agree with this statement to some extent I belive it is not entirely accurate.

To commence with, there are compelling argument supporting this opinion. The first and foremost reason is that, they accommodate more people on limited land. To explicate it,In metropolitan area, land is limited and costly so building vertically is a suitable solution to provide enough homes. In addition to that, It makes transportation facilities more effective. When a wide range of masses live together it is easier for the government to provide buses, schools and hospitals .Hence it reduces travel time as well as cost.

On the other hand,I do not completely agree that provide sufficient housing in major cities is suitable solution. The primary reason is that, It can cause overcrowding and pressure on infrastructure. Provided that, numerous individuals live in on apartment have a major load on water ,electricity ,parking and lifts. As a result, it can lead to traffic jams.Beyond this,It can be more expensive and damage the environment. Construction of multi-storey building ,needs a lot of money, machines and materials as well as it creates noise and air pollution and can disturb nearby people.Ultimately,It impacts quality of life,as people have less privacy, less open space and can feel isolated living in small flats.

As far as I concerned, eventhough high-rise development have Some drawbacks like overcrowding and high cost ,they are the most appropriate method to solve the housing problems in large cities.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address both sides of the question and make your position clear: you agree with high-rise housing to some extent, while recognising drawbacks, and your conclusion ultimately supports it as the most appropriate method. The points about limited urban land, transport provision, pressure on utilities, cost and environmental effects are relevant. However, some ideas are asserted rather than fully explained. For example, the claim that high-rise living makes transport facilities more effective would be stronger with a clear explanation of how density enables better services or a specific example. The environmental and quality-of-life concerns are also listed quickly. Develop fewer points with more explanation and evidence so that the response covers the issue more fully.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable overall structure: an introduction, a paragraph supporting high-rise development, a paragraph presenting disadvantages, and a concluding position. This makes the argument easy to follow in broad terms. You also use signposts such as “To commence with,” “On the other hand,” and “As a result.” However, some transitions feel mechanical, and the relationship between ideas is not always smooth; for instance, the move from pressure on utilities to traffic jams needs a clearer link. Several sentences run together because spacing and punctuation are inconsistent, which weakens the flow. Use fewer formulaic transitions and connect each supporting explanation directly to the point it develops.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a relevant range of topic vocabulary, including “metropolitan area,” “limited land,” “infrastructure,” “overcrowding,” and “quality of life.” These choices help communicate the main arguments, and you attempt some less common expressions. However, inaccurate word choice and collocation sometimes make the writing sound unnatural, as in “a major load on water” and “a wide range of masses.” There are also spelling errors such as “nowdays” and “belive,” alongside inconsistent capitalisation. These do not prevent the reader from understanding the overall message, but they limit precision and control. Focus on natural combinations such as “put pressure on water supplies” and check spelling and word forms during proofreading.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including conditional phrasing with “Provided that” and a contrast introduced by “while.” The main ideas remain understandable, but some grammatical errors recur. For example, “there are compelling argument” has a plural agreement error, and “I do not completely agree that provide sufficient housing … is suitable solution” lacks a clear grammatical subject and article. The final sentence also has agreement problems in “high-rise development have.” Sentence boundaries and punctuation need more consistent control, particularly where full stops are followed immediately by a new sentence. Practise accurate subject–verb agreement, articles, and complete clause structures while retaining your attempts at complex sentences.
