Student answer (Band 6.0)
Many people believe that the efficient way to ensure sufficient homes in massive cities is to construct tall apartment blocks. However, I would argue that building tall buildings is not the best way to deal with this problem. Contruction of tall buildings can cause environment pollution though it mitigate the accommodation problem. In this essay, I will argue on the disagrement of myself with the statement.
The main reason not to build tall apartment frequently is the environmental pollution it causes. Due to the contruction dusts and chemicals, air and soil are polluted significantly. As a result of these pollutants, the ecological system faces imbalance and uncertainty. We should also take into account that the ground-water shortage occurs because of these large contructions. Shortage in ground-water can cause erid and reduce the crop cultivation which leads to food insufficiency in the market.
Though building tall apartments can be helpful to the individuals who have to live in the city for their occupation and it would reduce their travel distance, the pollution it causes outweigh the benefits. Also, even if the forests and natural land are not often affected by these contructions, but air pollution spread all over the region in the perphery of the city. Air pollution can cause lungs cancer and other respiratory diseases, ultimately leading to lose invaluable lives.
To conclude, it is of paramount importance that the governments, urban planner, and the contruction companies should take necessary steps to ensure that the building of large apartments cannot pollute the environments and cause any problems to the citizens. Therefore, I discussed why I disagreed with the statement of building tall apartments can provide sufficient homes in the efficient way.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
Your position is clear: you disagree that tall apartment blocks are the best solution, and you give relevant reasons, including construction-related pollution and possible health effects. You also acknowledge a benefit—shorter journeys for city workers—which helps address the issue rather than presenting only one side. However, the response focuses mainly on environmental harms and does not fully explain why these outweigh the need to provide enough homes. The claims about groundwater, crop cultivation and food shortages are asserted rather than supported with a clear example or explanation, and the conclusion shifts towards making construction safer instead of directly reinforcing your disagreement. Develop the housing alternatives or qualify your position more clearly to make the argument more complete.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, two body paragraphs and a conclusion, and the main ideas generally progress from environmental effects to health consequences. Linking phrases such as “As a result” and “To conclude” help guide the reader. However, some connections are mechanical or unclear. For example, “Though building tall apartments…” is followed by “but,” creating an awkward contrast, while “Also, even if…” introduces a point whose relationship to the previous sentence is not fully clear. The conclusion also introduces a recommendation about safer construction that does not neatly follow from the argument against tall blocks. Use clearer topic sentences and make each paragraph’s central point and its link to your position explicit.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use a reasonable range of topic vocabulary, including “ecological system,” “ground-water shortage,” “respiratory diseases” and “invaluable lives.” These choices show an effort to discuss environmental and urban issues beyond basic vocabulary. However, several spelling and word-choice errors reduce precision, such as “Contruction,” “disagrement,” “erid” and “perphery.” Some combinations are also unnatural: “construction dusts,” “faces imbalance and uncertainty,” and “lose invaluable lives.” Repetition of “tall buildings,” “construction” and “pollution” limits flexibility. Aim for accurate collocations and check spelling carefully; more precise phrasing would make your ideas easier to follow without requiring more elaborate vocabulary.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt a mix of simple and complex structures, including a concession beginning “Though building tall apartments…” and a cause-and-effect sentence beginning “As a result.” Most of the argument remains understandable, but some grammatical errors affect accuracy. In “the pollution it causes outweigh the benefits,” the subject requires a singular verb; “the governments, urban planner, and the contruction companies should” also has a number mismatch. The sentence beginning “Though” is incorrectly joined to a clause with “but,” and “I will argue on the disagrement of myself” shows an awkward grammatical pattern. Work on subject–verb agreement, clause joining and sentence patterns for stating a position. Greater control of these structures would make the complex sentences more reliable.
