Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You take a clear position in favour of tall apartment blocks and give relevant reasons, including affordability, accommodating many residents, and possible benefits to tourism and businesses. The references to New York and Tokyo also help connect the argument to real cities. However, the response addresses the task only partially: the reasons are mostly asserted rather than explained, and the examples do not show how high-rise construction provides enough homes in practice. The claim that large buildings are a “sign of honor and richness” is not clearly linked to the housing question. The response is also below the required 250 words. Develop two or three relevant points with explanation and specific examples to make your argument more complete.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a basic overall structure: an introduction states your view, a body paragraph gives supporting points, and a conclusion restates your position. This makes the main direction understandable. However, progression within the paragraphs is limited, and several ideas are placed together without clear links—for example, affordability, status, tourism, and international companies appear in quick succession. Linking is also sometimes mechanical or unclear, as in “NewYork is among them it is one of the largest…” and “It also offers wide range of benefits.” Use separate paragraphs for distinct reasons, connect each claim to the next with precise referencing, and explain how each example supports your position.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some topic-related vocabulary, such as “housing crisis,” “infrastructure,” “residential buildings,” and “cost benefits,” which helps communicate the subject. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate, making parts of the response less natural: “colossal skyscrapers,” “sign of honor and richness,” and “financially economical” are examples. Spelling errors such as “appartments,” “comoppared,” and “busnesses” are also noticeable. Aim for precise, natural phrases and check spelling carefully. For instance, describe buildings as “high-rise apartment blocks,” and explain that they can “increase housing capacity” or provide “more affordable accommodation.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more extended sentence forms, and the reader can generally identify your main position. However, the range is limited, and errors occur frequently in sentence boundaries, agreement, articles, and verb forms. For example, “I agree with this concept. It will be effective way” needs a space after the full stop and an article before “effective way”; “administration … are shifting” has a subject–verb agreement problem; and “These building contributes” has errors in both number and agreement. Several sentences run together, particularly the opening discussion of New York. Practise building accurate sentences with one main idea each, then add subordinate clauses only when you can control their punctuation and grammar.
