Student answer (Band 5.5)
To provide enough homes in big cities through building tall apartment blocks is a debatable topic with varing opnions some may agree with this while other think the other way.
i agree to this statement to a larger extend but offcourse with some genuine conerns too. If we speak generally the population of the world is increasing day by day making it hard for different resource sectors to facilitate the public and providing homes is one of the challenges we face today espically in big cities. In such situtations building tall apartment blocks is most reliable and considered option to counter this challenge. But it also comes with a cost tall building are less safer in case of any emergency. In situtions like building fire or earthquack people will suffer in there is not any proper exit facility .
building tall apartments will ensure the less use of land for construction so that cities do not look more crowded. it safes a lot of land .
furthermore, the building should be nicely designed and construced in ways that it should accomadate more people but keeping in mind the safety and security of the people. facilitate in ways that they do not find the building risky but safe. proper exits in case of emergency and lift systems for elder to support them getting to the height they do not want to climb by stairs
so yes i do agree in building tall apartment blocks to provide enough houses in cites but with certain checks and balances.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
Your position is clear: you agree to a large extent, while recognising safety concerns. You address the main issue by explaining that apartment blocks use less land and can house more people, and you give relevant examples of fire and earthquake risks. This covers the task, but the supporting ideas are not equally developed. The land-use point is stated briefly, while the safety concern is not balanced with a clear explanation of how design measures would reduce the risks. The reference to lifts for older residents is relevant but could be connected more directly to whether tall blocks are the best way to provide enough homes. Develop each reason with a specific explanation or example to make your argument more convincing.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has an overall progression from your position, to the housing and land-use benefits, to safety qualifications, and then a concluding restatement. Linking expressions such as “furthermore” and “so” help signal relationships between ideas. However, paragraphing is limited, and several distinct points are crowded together, particularly the discussion of population growth, construction, and emergency risks. Some connections are also unclear: “it safes a lot of land” follows the point about reduced land use without explaining the consequence, and the sentence about lifts is difficult to connect to the preceding safety measures. Organise the essay into clear paragraphs for introduction, benefits, concerns and conclusion, and use more precise references and transitions to show how each point supports your position.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant topic vocabulary, including “apartment blocks,” “population,” “resource sectors,” “emergency,” and “exit facility,” so the reader can follow the main argument. There are also attempts at more specific phrasing, such as “checks and balances” and “safety and security.” However, spelling errors are frequent, including “varing,” “opnions,” “espically,” and “accomadate,” and some word choices or collocations are inaccurate or unclear, such as “less safer,” “safes a lot of land,” and “reliable and considered option.” These issues reduce precision and make parts of the response less natural. Build accuracy by checking spelling and learning common collocations for urban housing, land use, and building safety.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including a conditional idea about emergency exits and a clause beginning “while keeping in mind.” Your main position and most key points remain understandable. However, control is uneven: some sentences run together without appropriate punctuation, as in “But it also comes with a cost tall building are less safer,” while the opening sentence lacks clear sentence boundaries. There are also errors in agreement and sentence construction, for example “other think” and “the building should … accommodate more people but keeping in mind.” The final paragraph contains fragments, including “proper exits in case of emergency.” Use shorter, complete sentences where needed, and check subject–verb agreement, articles, and punctuation when joining clauses.
