Student answer (Band 6.5)
Using tall apartment buildings to provide sufficiant and affordable housing to the continuosly growing population has been an ongoing debate. I personally think that by constructing residential sky scrappers we can house more people using much lesser land if we plan properl.
Firstly lets see what potential effects it could have on our society. On one hand building tall apartment blocks creates a risk of overcrowding and a suffocated infrastructure, as the population will continue to grow there will be hoards of poeple trying to use the same fascilites creating an unpleasent crowding and waiting list for basic fascilities. In case of an emergency like a fire or explosion evactuating all the residents safely will nearly be impossible with only handful of lifts and hundred of staircases.
It has its drawbacks but i beleive with proper planning and designing we can house thousand of families in the same land that could only be a home to 3 families before. If we follow this idea we can provide affordable housing to the general public as well as control urban sprawl. It is really important for agriculture and wildlife that we take initiatives to protect the green space and country side, for this purpose we have to find a sufficiant way of stopping the cities expanding into the country side, making buildings grow vertically helps us acheive that goal of stopping habitat loss while making houses more affordable.
In conclusion, building tall residential buildings has its pros and cons but if we design the interior while keeping the potential dangers in mind, we can come up with a way of protecting the nature while decreasing the cost of housing in big cities.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
Your position is clear: you support tall apartment buildings as a way to house more people on less land, while acknowledging risks. You address the central question and give relevant reasons, including affordability, urban sprawl, and protecting agricultural land and wildlife. The comparison that the same land could house “thousand of families” rather than “3 families” helps illustrate your point, although it is broad rather than supported with a specific example. The discussion of overcrowding and emergency evacuation also shows awareness of drawbacks, but these concerns are not fully weighed against your proposed solution. To strengthen the response, explain more precisely how planning could address infrastructure and safety, and develop one example to support your position.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a clear overall shape: an introduction states your view, the body considers disadvantages and benefits, and the conclusion restates your position. Linking phrases such as “On one hand,” “It has its drawbacks,” and “In conclusion” help readers follow the argument. The progression is generally logical, but the first body paragraph moves quickly from overcrowding to emergency evacuation, while the next shifts to benefits without a fully explicit comparison between the two. Some transitions feel formulaic, and “Firstly lets see what potential effects it could have” is a vague lead-in rather than a focused topic sentence. To move further, make each paragraph’s main point explicit and use clearer references to connect the risks with the planning measures proposed later.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of topic vocabulary, including “overcrowding,” “infrastructure,” “urban sprawl,” “agriculture,” and “habitat loss.” These terms help communicate the main ideas, and attempts such as “residential skyscrapers” show ambition. However, several spelling errors and imprecise or unnatural combinations reduce accuracy: “sufficiant,” “continuosly,” “fascilites,” and “unpleasent” are misspelled, while “suffocated infrastructure” and “hundred of staircases” are not natural or precise in context. “Much lesser land” is also an awkward comparison. Check spelling carefully and learn common collocations for housing and city planning; more precise phrasing will make your argument sound more controlled.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt a mix of simple and complex structures, including a conditional sentence (“If we follow this idea…”) and a clause explaining the purpose of vertical development. Meaning is generally understandable, but some grammatical errors remain across sentence boundaries, agreement, articles, and punctuation. For example, “as the population will continue to grow there will be…” joins clauses without suitable punctuation, and “with only handful of lifts” needs an article. “Building tall apartment blocks creates a risk” is followed by a long sentence whose structure becomes difficult to manage. Capitalisation is also inconsistent, as in “i beleive.” Aim to divide long sentences into controlled units, punctuate dependent clauses, and check articles and plural forms. This would improve accuracy while preserving your attempts at complex grammar.
