Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
Student answer (Band 6.0)
Tall buildings with apartment blocks can ensure homes in the best possible way for people in big cities. I completely align with this statement as these cities are occupied with large population density.
It is a natural tendency of people to migrate to city areas for better livelihood, which is increasing population load and necessity for proper residents for migrants. To build one or two storied buildings for the new-comers is not a feasible soltuion, because city areas are already conjusted with existing residential, commercial and institutional buildings. For instance, there are little spaces left to contruct new residential zones. Additionally, there will be a few options to leave space for parks or childrens' playground facilities for their natural growth.
However, it is quite reasonable to extend residential buildings vertically, which will take less surface area to occupy larger number of people. To support this approach, present architectural knowledge and technologies are modern enough. For example, China has set countless examples by building multi-storied buidlinds overnight, using special ingredients. Moreover, these buildings are be too tall to use stairs, rather people can use swift but safe lifts. Another benefit is its cost effectiveness. Surely, an entire family house is usually more expensive than an compact apartment. For instance, people who left their native areas for better financial situation to support their families, will be able to get a residence by spending a reasonable amount. On the top of that, these tall buildings will spare spaces for children and elderly so that they can have their quality time in parks and playgrounds.
To conclude, our world is advanced enough to support the construction of tall buildings, which can provide sufficient homes for the people in large cities. On addition to that, this approach supports the financially struggling city residents and also facilates the children.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
Your position is clear from the opening: you completely agree that tall apartment blocks are the best way to provide homes in large cities. You give relevant reasons, including limited land, the ability to house more people vertically, affordability, and retaining space for parks. These points address the task and are supported with examples, such as the contrast between family houses and compact apartments. The response also shows some development beyond a simple list of reasons. However, a few claims are asserted rather than explained: the reference to China building structures “overnight” is vague, and the affordability point would be stronger with a clearer explanation of how apartment construction reduces costs. More precise support and fuller development of these points would make the argument more convincing.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, two body paragraphs presenting the land constraint and advantages of vertical construction, and a conclusion that restates your view. Ideas generally progress logically, and linking phrases such as “Additionally,” “However,” and “To conclude” help guide the reader. At times, though, connections feel mechanical or the reference is unclear. For example, “On the top of that” repeats the function of “Moreover,” while “these buildings” in the sentence about stairs and lifts could be linked more explicitly to the practical benefits of high-rise housing. The second body paragraph also combines technology, transport within buildings, cost, and open space; grouping related points more carefully would improve progression and cohesion.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use a reasonable range of topic-related vocabulary, including “population density,” “residential zones,” “vertically,” and “cost effectiveness,” which helps communicate the main ideas. There are also attempts at less common expressions, but several choices are inaccurate or unnatural and sometimes make the meaning less precise. For instance, “proper residents” does not mean suitable housing, and “population load” is less natural than “population pressure.” Spelling errors such as “soltuion,” “conjusted,” and “buidlinds” are noticeable, while phrases such as “special ingredients” are unclear in this context. Aim for accurate collocations and proofread spelling; this would make your vocabulary more effective without needing more elaborate words.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You use both simple and complex sentence forms, including a reason clause beginning “because” and a relative clause in “people who left their native areas.” Most of the argument remains understandable, but some grammatical errors recur. For example, “these buildings are be too tall” has an incorrect verb construction, and “an compact apartment” uses the wrong article. In “people … will be able to get a residence,” the tense and conditional relationship could be expressed more consistently. There are also issues with plural and possessive forms, as in “childrens' playground facilities.” Review articles, verb forms, and agreement, then check each sentence for a complete and consistent structure. Greater accuracy across these patterns would strengthen the range you already attempt.
