Student answer (Band 5.5)

Nowadays, many people move to large cities for better jobs, living opportunities and educations. As a result, the amount of houses is increasing day by day. Some people believe that building tall appartment blocks is best way to provide enough space.

I agree with this statement because it saves so many space and accomfation for people.

There are so many advantages of building tall apartment blocks as well as there are some disadvantages of building tall apartment blocks. Firstly, advantages of building tall apartments would save space, sharing one building can reduce cost of appartment, So many people can live in one building, they are often located close to offices, schools, hospitals and supermarkets. As well as it saves alot of time because they are located very near to many facilities, it also saves money.

Disadvantages of living in apparment blocks are people living close with each other, it can cause very little privacy. Too many people living in one building can make lifts, parking area and other facilties very busy. Building tall appartments require expensive material and skilled workers. Residents may not have their own gardens. People may hear noise from neighbours. A large number of resisdents can increase water, electricity, hospitals and schools. It can also cause difficulty in emergency situtaions like fire alarms and others. Due to many people living in same building can be very difficult for everyone to go downstairs.

In conclusion, I believe that building tall appartments will provide many advantages and is good way to provide large number of homes in big cities. Although, there are some disadvantages of building tall apartment blocks but we can fix them by proper planning.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

Your position is clear: you agree that tall apartment blocks are an effective way to provide homes, and the conclusion restates this view. You address the topic from both sides, giving relevant benefits such as saving space and being near services, as well as drawbacks including limited privacy, noise and emergency access. However, the advantages are listed more than explained, and some points—such as “increase water, electricity, hospitals and schools”—are unclear or need a more precise explanation. To strengthen the response, develop fewer points with specific reasoning or an example, and explain why the disadvantages do not outweigh the benefits. This would make your support for your position more convincing and balanced.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable overall structure: an introduction, a paragraph on advantages, one on disadvantages, and a conclusion. This makes the main line of argument easy to follow. However, the progression within paragraphs is sometimes list-like, particularly in the advantages paragraph, where several benefits are joined together without clear explanation of how they relate. Linking phrases such as “Firstly” and “In conclusion” help, but “As well as” and repeated references to “building tall apartment blocks” can feel mechanical. Some connections are also unclear, for example the sentence about residents increasing “water, electricity, hospitals and schools.” Group related points, use clearer transitions, and make references between sentences more precise.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate the main ideas, including “privacy,” “facilities,” “emergency situations” and “skilled workers.” However, the range is limited and several spelling and word-choice errors are noticeable, such as “appartment,” “accomfation,” “facilties” and “resisdents.” Some phrases are also imprecise or unnatural, including “living opportunities,” “saves so many space” and “increase water, electricity, hospitals and schools.” These choices sometimes make the intended meaning less clear. Build a more accurate set of housing and urban-planning expressions, check spelling carefully, and choose collocations that express the relationship between residents and public services precisely.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, and the overall meaning is generally understandable. There are some recurring grammatical errors, however. For example, “building tall apartment blocks is best way” needs an article, while “it saves so many space” has a quantifier and agreement problem. The sentence beginning “Firstly, advantages of building tall apartments would save space” has an unclear subject and verb relationship, and “Due to many people living in same building can be very difficult” is not a complete, correctly formed clause. Punctuation also needs attention, especially where separate ideas are joined with commas. Practise complete sentence patterns, articles, and singular/plural agreement, then proofread each sentence for a clear subject and main verb.
