Student answer (Band 6.0)
In recent years, there has been growing concern about whether the best to provide homes to individuals is to build large building. From my perspective, I partly agree with the statement because in large appartments less land is required and more citizens can live. Although tall building provides convenience and reduces deforestation, I believe that it also has several drawbacks, such as lack of parking space and traffic congestion.
On the one hand, large building in urban area provides convenience and less land is required because large building have more space for citizens and also provides various facilities, which helps to live a good life. For instance, tall appartments in cities occupied almost 20 flats in it, which means 20 families can live in one tall building. Another significant factor is that constraction of tall building in cities helps to reduce deforestation. This is because many builders cutting down trees in terms of building constraction, which effects natural land and ecosystem that only depends on forest.
On the other hand, tall building in the cities provides several drawbacks as well, such as lack of parking space and traffic congestion. Tall building in the city areas is also a factor tarffic congestion because when more residential areas provided by cities more private vehicles appear in one place, which also leads to air pollution. Another factor is that tall building suffer from lack of parking space due to more private vehicles. This is because every individual need parking space for their own private care or bike, which also contribute to social pressure on city life.
In conclusion, although tall appartment blocks provide convenience and reduce deforestation, I believe it also has several drawbacks such as traffic congestion and lack of parking space, which aslo effects both individuals and the society.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
Your position is clear: you partly agree that tall apartment blocks can help provide homes, while recognising disadvantages. You address both sides with relevant points about land use, deforestation, parking and congestion, and the example of 20 flats illustrates how one building can house multiple families. However, some ideas are less fully developed than others. The claim that tall buildings reduce deforestation needs a clearer explanation of how building upwards would reduce tree loss, and the discussion of parking and traffic largely repeats the point about more vehicles without exploring possible solutions or trade-offs. To strengthen the response, explain the conditions under which high-rise housing works best and support each main reason with a more specific example.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, two contrasting body paragraphs and a conclusion. The progression from benefits to drawbacks is easy to follow, and signposts such as “On the one hand,” “On the other hand” and “In conclusion” help guide the reader. This meets the lower-band expectations securely and shows some features of stronger organisation. However, cohesion is occasionally mechanical, with repeated openings such as “Another factor” and repeated references to “tall building.” Some links between claims are also not fully clear: the connection between high-rise housing and reduced deforestation, for example, needs to be made explicit. Use more varied referencing and ensure each supporting sentence clearly develops the paragraph’s main point.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate the main ideas, including “traffic congestion,” “air pollution,” “parking space” and “ecosystem.” However, the range is limited and several noticeable spelling, word-form and collocation errors reduce precision, such as “appartments,” “constraction,” “effects” where “affects” is intended, and “private care.” Repetition of “tall building” and “private vehicles” also makes the writing less flexible. These choices do not prevent the reader from understanding the overall argument, but some phrases require effort to interpret. Build a more accurate range of housing and urban-planning vocabulary, and check spelling and common word partnerships before submitting.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including clauses with “because,” “which” and “although,” so the response shows some structural variety. Most sentences communicate the intended meaning, but errors in agreement, articles, verb forms and sentence construction remain noticeable. For example, “large building have more space” has a subject–verb agreement problem, while “many builders cutting down trees” needs a finite verb form. In “every individual need parking space,” the singular subject also requires a different verb form. Review these patterns and check articles and plural forms, as in “tall building in urban area.” Greater control of these recurring structures would make the argument smoother and more accurate.
