Student answer (Band 5.5)

The best method to provide sufficient homes in huge cities is to construct tall apartment blocks.I strong agree with this notion since it can accomodate larger number of population in a small land.

Atraction of people towards city has increased lately.Population density is increasing in city day by day.It has encourage the activities such as deforestation, urban encroachment for building taller buildings to fulfill human needs. It has contributed to various kinds of pollution and as a consequence climate change has occured. Climate change has become the global issue due to increasing numbers of unorganized housing. Recently, in Nepal numerous citizens have lost their life due to unexpected heavy flood which is the result of climate change. It has also affected the human welfare as large number of individuals are facing the health issue such as respiratory disease, cancer.

If government takes responsibility and show their concern towards organized housing management in city area then it will save productive agricultural land from turning into another man-made infrastructure. A lot of individuals enter city area in search of good career opportunty and to build good life. So, if government involve and regulate the matters related to building any infrastructure then it will discourage activities like deforestation. As a result we can promote green city and can get fresh environment in the city area. Nepali citizen do not have to worry about the problem related with housing.

In conclusion, It is crucial for the government to do their duty and we can protect our mother earth and avoid climate change related problems.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

Your position is clear in the opening: you strongly support tall apartment blocks because they can house more people on limited land. However, the response only partially develops the specific question of whether high-rise construction is the best way to provide homes. Much of the first body paragraph shifts to pollution, climate change and health, while the next focuses on government regulation and protecting agricultural land; neither explains in detail how apartment blocks themselves address housing needs or what their limitations might be. The Nepal flood example is relevant to climate impacts but its connection to the proposed housing solution is not made clear. To strengthen the response, develop direct reasons for high-rise housing and support them with a specific example, while maintaining a clear link to your position.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, two body paragraphs and a conclusion, and the ideas within each paragraph are broadly related. However, progression is not consistently clear: the first body paragraph moves from urban population growth to deforestation, climate change, flooding and disease without explaining the links to tall apartment blocks. The second paragraph introduces government responsibility, but the connection between regulation and providing enough homes is also under-explained. Linking phrases such as “As a result” and “In conclusion” help signal relationships, though some transitions feel mechanical or do not establish a clear cause-and-effect connection. Improve cohesion by organising each paragraph around one main reason and using explicit references to connect each supporting point back to the housing proposal.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of topic vocabulary, including “population density,” “deforestation,” “agricultural land,” “infrastructure” and “respiratory disease.” These choices show an attempt to discuss urban development and environmental effects beyond basic vocabulary. Some less common expressions are not used naturally or precisely, however: “Atraction of people towards city” and “unorganized housing” are unclear in context, while “build good life” is an awkward collocation. There are also spelling errors, including “accomodate,” “opportunty” and “occured,” which reduce accuracy but do not prevent the reader from understanding the main ideas. Aim for more precise, natural collocations and check spelling carefully; this will make your argument sound clearer and more controlled.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including conditional structures such as “If government takes responsibility … then it will save productive agricultural land” and a relative clause in “which is the result of climate change.” Meaning is generally recoverable, but errors in verb forms, agreement, articles and sentence boundaries occur across the response. For example, “It has encourage” should use the past participle, and “large number of individuals are facing” needs an article or plural form. The opening also runs two sentences together after “blocks.” These issues sometimes make relationships between ideas less clear. Practise checking subject–verb agreement, verb forms and articles, and use full stops consistently. More accurate control of these patterns would make your complex sentences easier to follow.
