Student answer (Band 5.5)
Constructing tall apartment blocks is one of the best way to solve housing problems in big cities. This essay agree with this statement because it can save space and renting cost.
In an apartment block there are more space than a single house thus more people can live in an apartment. An apartment block is basically more than one houses stacked vartically. For instance, more than ten family can live in a five storied apartment. Everyone can get parking facilities along with gym and swimming pool in one place saving a lot of space.
Since, apartment blocks need less space, rent become cheaper and affordable. Within the same area of land, where a house contain only one family, an apartment can contain more than ten family, consequently lowering the renting cost and become available for more people.
In conclusion, building tall apartment blocks can save land area and provide shelter for more people, while reducing the renting cost, it become affordable for everyone.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You take a clear position in favour of tall apartment blocks and give relevant reasons: they accommodate more families on the same land and can reduce housing costs. The example of a five-storey building and shared facilities helps illustrate the space-saving point. However, the response addresses the task only partially because the reasons are brief and largely asserted rather than explained or supported with a developed example. The claim that rent becomes cheaper, for instance, needs qualification or explanation, since construction and location can also affect prices. The response is also 87 words below the required minimum, which limits the opportunity to develop your argument. Extend each main point and include a specific, relevant example.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a coherent overall arrangement: an introduction states your view, the body paragraphs explain space and affordability, and the conclusion restates the position. Linking expressions such as “thus,” “for instance,” and “consequently” help show relationships between ideas. However, the progression is quite mechanical, and the second and third paragraphs repeat the same comparison between one house and multiple families in an apartment. The opening “Since” is followed by a comma that interrupts the sentence, and the final sentence joins several ideas in a way that makes the relationship between them less clear. Develop distinct points in separate paragraphs and use referencing or transitions to connect ideas without repeating them.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
Your vocabulary is sufficient to communicate the central argument, with relevant terms such as “apartment blocks,” “housing problems,” “parking facilities,” and “renting cost.” However, the range is limited and some word choices or collocations are inaccurate, which makes parts of the response less natural. For example, “renting cost” is not the usual phrase for the price tenants pay, and “more space” does not express the intended comparison as precisely as “more homes per unit of land.” There is also a spelling error in “vartically.” Try using a wider range of housing-related language and check collocations and spelling; this will make your points more precise and easier to follow.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You use both simple sentences and some attempts at complex structures, including “Since apartment blocks need less space…” and a result clause beginning “consequently.” The main ideas remain understandable, but errors in agreement, articles, plurals, and verb forms occur across the response. Examples include “This essay agree,” “there are more space,” “more than one houses,” and “rent become cheaper.” The final sentence also combines clauses without a clear grammatical structure. Practise checking subject–verb agreement and singular/plural forms, and make sure each sentence has a complete, correctly connected clause. More accurate control of these patterns, alongside varied sentence structures, would strengthen the response.
