Student answer (Band 6.5)

In the recent years due to rapid urbanization the issue of housing facilities has faced a decline. while many metropolitial cities have started the construction of tall towers to provide housing facilities. I partially disaggre on this the reason being that as this option will be good to solve the problem in the short run, but in the long run it will lead of many socio-economic and infrastructural issues.

On one hand where this is a very efficient solutions for many countries as the expansion of buildings vertically can fit more individuals of the city which can cure a major prroblem. Further more this idea of vertucally expanding the towers will help to efficiently pass utilities such as water, electricity, gas etc. For instance countries like Japan and Singapore have sucessfully managed to do this kind of expansion of the bulding vertically which are currently home to many individuals while the country also manages to have world-class transportarion and green spaces.

On the other hand the idea of making tall and multistory building come with a high cost of maintenance which often translates to high service charges for the residents or the dependence on developer who might use low grade materials that can affect the security of the individuals. Historically high rise appartments such as the infamous Pruitt Ioge complex of thhe United States of Amercia suffred from rapid physuical deterioration, social isolation and elevated crime rate due to poor communtiy integration.

Therefore, a balanced, multi-faceted housing strategy is necessary rather than a sole reliance on vertical construction. Urban authorities should combine high-rise towers in central business districts with medium-density housing such as mid-rise apartments, terraced housing, and mixed-use developments in suburban transit hubs. Converting underutilized commercial properties into residential units and revitalizing surrounding satellite towns also provides sustainable relief to urban housing pressure.

In conclusion, while the construction of the high rise towers is an effective strategy for optimizing urban land, calling it the best sollution is an oversimplification Sustainable urban development requires a diverse mix of housing types, high- and medium-density zoning, and regional planning to create livable, affordable cities.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.5

Your position is clear throughout: you partly disagree because high-rise housing can ease pressure in the short term but should not be the sole solution. You address both the benefits and drawbacks, supporting them with examples such as Singapore and Japan, and the Pruitt-Igoe complex. The conclusion also directly answers whether tall blocks are the best approach and proposes alternatives. This is a well-supported response, although some claims are broad: for example, the link between high-rise buildings and low-quality materials is asserted rather than explained, and the examples could be tied more explicitly to whether towers provide enough homes. Developing these points with clearer evidence or qualification would make the argument more consistently precise.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The essay has a clear overall structure: an introduction states your position, two body paragraphs present contrasting considerations, and the final paragraphs offer a broader strategy and conclusion. Signposting such as “On one hand,” “On the other hand,” and “In conclusion” helps readers follow the argument. The progression is generally logical, but the first body paragraph’s opening, “On one hand where this is a very efficient solutions,” is awkward and makes the relationship between the point and the previous paragraph less smooth. The move from the drawbacks to the proposed alternatives could also be more explicitly connected. To strengthen cohesion, use more natural transitions and ensure each paragraph develops one central point before moving to the next.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use a suitable range of topic vocabulary, including “rapid urbanization,” “social isolation,” “mixed-use developments,” and “regional planning.” These choices help communicate ideas about housing and urban development, and some less common terms are used effectively. However, spelling and word-choice errors are noticeable, including “metropolitial,” “vertucally,” “sucessfully,” and “transportarion.” There are also awkward or imprecise combinations such as “housing facilities,” “pass utilities,” and “the dependence on developer.” These do not prevent understanding, but they reduce precision and naturalness. Proofread spelling carefully and learn common collocations for urban planning, such as “provide housing,” “deliver utilities,” and “reliance on developers.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You attempt a mix of simple and complex structures, including a contrastive clause in “while the country also manages…” and a relative clause in “who might use low grade materials.” Most ideas remain understandable, but some grammatical errors occur. For example, “In the recent years” has an unnecessary article, “the issue … has faced a decline” uses an unclear grammatical construction, and “building come with a high cost” has a subject–verb agreement error. Sentence boundaries and punctuation also need attention: the opening “while” begins a fragment, and the conclusion runs “oversimplification Sustainable” together without appropriate punctuation. Review articles, agreement, and sentence boundaries, then check each sentence for a complete main clause.
