Student answer (Band 5.0)

Indiviual houses aquire enough land in the cities and, by building large apartments are the best alternatives to provide houses in larger city areas. I firmly agree with this statement because this can eventually provide large number of flats using a small piece of land.

On the One hand, there are numerous advantages while living in a flat. For instance, while living in a flat people have better security and more ways to interact and build relationship with people under the same roof. Although, over population becoming a major problem and, aquiring a small piece of land can provide homes to many people at the same place. Additionally, apparments also convinient for people related to jobs, schools and shopping.

On the other hand, in large cities land is becoming insufient to build more homes. over population is one the major cause which in future require more land and by building tall apartments these issues can be addressed.

To sum up, large buildings are a good aproach to handle the issue.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

Your position is clear in the opening: you firmly agree that tall apartments can provide many homes on limited land. You also give relevant supporting points, including security, social interaction, and proximity to jobs, schools, and shops. However, the response addresses the task only partially because these ideas are mostly asserted rather than explained or illustrated; for example, the benefits of security and interaction are not linked clearly to why high-rise construction is the best solution. The final paragraph repeats the main claim without adding support. The response is 80 words below the required minimum, which limits the space available to develop reasons and provide a relevant example. Extend each main point with explanation or a specific example.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, two body paragraphs signalled by “On the one hand” and “On the other hand,” and a concluding sentence. This gives the reader some guidance. However, there is no clear overall progression: the first body paragraph shifts from security and relationships to population and convenience, while the second repeats the land-shortage argument without developing it. Some linking is also inaccurate or mechanical. For instance, “Although” does not connect appropriately to the following independent clause, and “Additionally” introduces a point without showing how it relates to the preceding one. Organise the essay around two distinct reasons, explain each in sequence, and use linking expressions only when their logical relationship is clear.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use a limited but relevant set of vocabulary for the topic, including “apartments,” “over population,” “security,” and “land.” These terms make your general meaning understandable. However, noticeable spelling and word-choice errors reduce precision, such as “Indiviual,” “aquire,” “apparments,” “convinient,” and “insufient.” Some expressions are also unnatural or imprecise: “large number of flats using a small piece of land” would be clearer as “a large number of flats on a small area of land,” while “people related to jobs” does not express the intended convenience clearly. Build a wider range of accurate housing and urban-planning vocabulary, and check spelling and collocations carefully.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including a reason clause with “because” and a contrast introduced by “Although.” However, the range is limited, and complex structures are often faulty. In “Although, over population becoming a major problem,” the clause lacks a finite verb and is punctuated incorrectly; “overpopulation is becoming a major problem” would be grammatical. The opening sentence is also difficult to parse because its subject and verb do not form a clear structure. Other issues include missing articles or prepositions, as in “one the major cause,” and inconsistent capitalisation after full stops. Practise building complete clauses and checking subject–verb structure, articles, and punctuation before adding more complex links.
