Student answer (Band 6.0)

Vertical buildings development and introducing high rise architectural infrastructure to save space and at the same time provide housing to cater advancing population and their needs, in the metropolises is the smartest approach in my opinion. I strongly agree with this approach to be the modern way to build societies and communities.

To begin with, building high rise vertical structures with apartment block and amenities like rooftop garden, pool, gym, cinema and playground with a garden will not only provide sufficient living space to people in large cities but also it will save a lot of space by having amenities like gym etc. included in the building itself, furthermore, there will be no need of building these amenities separately and it is going to save up a surplus amount of land which can be further utilized into building more tall apartment block to accommodate more residence.

Additionally, the idea of building multistory apartments will work in the favor of environment by reducing global CO2 emissions annually, meanwhile allowing the concept of rooftop gardening and introducing more land to be utilized to promote plantation, agriculture and well equipped Hospitals and educational institutions. A compelling example of this can be seen in cities like Mumbai, the capital of India where traditional housing system has been vanished and apartment housing has taken over the society, thus leaving enough land to build human necessities like Government offices, more hospitals, and more educational institutions.

In a nutshell, building vertical house blocks in major cities all over the world is the wisest approach to tackle advancing population.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

Your position is clear from the introduction: you strongly agree that tall apartment blocks are the best approach. You give relevant reasons, including saving land by incorporating amenities and making room for services such as hospitals and schools, and the Mumbai example helps illustrate your argument. However, the environmental claim that high-rise housing will reduce CO2 emissions is asserted rather than explained, and the example does not show clearly how apartment construction itself creates the additional land described. The response addresses the question, but some supporting ideas are less fully developed or precise than others. To strengthen the argument, explain the mechanisms behind each benefit and acknowledge a limitation or condition, such as the need for good transport and infrastructure.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction states your view, two body paragraphs present supporting reasons, and the conclusion restates your position. Sequencing is generally easy to follow, and signposts such as “To begin with,” “Additionally,” and “In a nutshell” help identify the stages of the argument. Some connections are less controlled, however. The first body paragraph joins several points in one long sentence, while “furthermore” and “meanwhile” do not always express the relationship between the ideas that follow. The Mumbai example also moves quickly from apartment housing to public facilities without making the link explicit. Use shorter units for related points and clearer references to show how each example supports the claim.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of topic vocabulary, including “high rise,” “amenities,” “global CO2 emissions,” “rooftop gardening,” and “educational institutions.” These choices make the subject clear, and attempts at more formal language suit an academic essay. Some expressions are imprecise or awkwardly combined, such as “advancing population,” “surplus amount of land,” and “traditional housing system has been vanished.” “Vertical buildings development” is also difficult to interpret naturally. These choices do not prevent understanding, but they limit precision and fluency. Aim for established collocations and check whether a phrase expresses the intended meaning—for example, distinguish population growth from population needs, and describe land as being “freed up” rather than “surplus.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including clauses linked with “which” and “by reducing,” and your main position remains understandable. However, some long sentences contain several clauses and are difficult to control. There are also errors in agreement, articles, plurals, and verb forms: “apartment block” should be plural in context, “it will save” does not agree smoothly with the plural subject “structures,” and “has been vanished” uses an incorrect passive construction. The opening sentence is a fragment rather than a complete sentence, and the final paragraph would benefit from a complete, more precise sentence structure. Break up overloaded sentences and check subject–verb agreement and verb forms during revision.
