Student answer (Band 5.0)

The common belief is that high apartment blocks can provide plenty homes in big cities. At some extent i agree with this statement because along with benefits there are alot of threats of high buildings.

There are several reasons why i partly agree with this trend. Initially, although lofty blocks can be provide enough place for homes but they can be harmful in stormy weather. In my city there was a skyscraping buildy which was scrambled in a desestrest strom. Consequently, all of people died and also it destroyed the sroundings. Futhermore, it can harm environment too because it will increase environmental pollution. There should be buildings which are not too high and also should be wider with enough place.

In my point, tall buildings are benificial because it can provide alot of place for homes. As mostly people move to big cities for better life and alot of other facilities which are not available in villeges. In result of it cities become crowed and people do not have much place for building homes. So it is contended that buildy high buildings can provide sufficient space for homes in big cites. In some extent it is effective but it has alot of negative affacts also.

In conclusion, by building lofty apartment blocks a plenty of place can be created for homes. I partly agree with this statement because there are some harmful affacts of this. It can provide place for homes but it can harm the environment too. Buildings should be wide than tall.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

Your position is identifiable: you partly agree that tall blocks can provide homes, while noting risks to the environment and safety. You also give a relevant reason for demand in cities, explaining that people move there for better opportunities and that this increases crowding. However, the discussion is only partly developed. The storm example—“all of people died”—is dramatic but unclear and unsupported, and the environmental concern is asserted without explaining how high-rise construction causes pollution. The suggestion that buildings should be “wider than tall” is also not justified as a practical alternative. To strengthen the response, explain each main reason with a clear cause-and-effect link and a credible example, while maintaining your balanced position.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response has an introduction, two body paragraphs and a conclusion, so the reader can recognise its basic structure. Some progression is present: you first discuss possible harms, then explain why tall buildings can address housing demand. However, the overall argument does not develop smoothly, and several linking expressions feel mechanical or unclear, including “Initially,” “In result of it,” and “In some extent.” The second body paragraph also repeats the claim that tall buildings provide space without adding much support, while the conclusion largely restates earlier points. Use clearer topic sentences, connect each example directly to the paragraph’s main idea, and reduce repetition so the argument moves forward more consistently.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

You attempt vocabulary relevant to the topic, including “apartment blocks,” “environmental pollution,” “crowed,” and “sufficient space.” However, the range is limited and several noticeable spelling, word-form and collocation errors make parts difficult to understand. Examples include “plenty homes,” “lofty blocks,” “skyscraping buildy,” “desestrest strom,” and “sroundings”; the intended meaning of the storm example is especially hard to follow. Repeated use of “alot,” “place,” and “buildings” also limits precision. Build a reliable set of housing and urban-development terms, check spelling carefully, and choose natural combinations such as “provide housing” and “urban population growth.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You use both simple sentences and some attempts at complex structures, such as “although … but” and the explanation beginning “As mostly people move to big cities.” However, complex sentences are often faulty, and frequent errors sometimes make the meaning difficult to follow. For example, “can be provide” has an incorrect verb form, “it can provide” does not agree with the plural subject “tall buildings,” and “At some extent i agree” has problems with the preposition and capitalisation. Articles and sentence construction also need attention in phrases such as “all of people died.” Practise forming one clear main clause before adding subordinate clauses, and check subject–verb agreement, verb forms, articles and punctuation.
