Student answer (Band 5.5)

The rapid growth of population in the country leading to increase in more building structures especially these days there are tall apartments constructed in many places of the city. This has both advantages and disadvantages.

Building tall apartments to provide homes is actually a good things as there is no need of extra lands for independent houses. As we can see to contruct such houses lands having vegetation, farms, rice fields and other such have been removed or destoryed to contruct a building and there are some places in the country where they destory forest for extending the city and leading to deforestation. This disturbs the nature and wildlife. In another view for an individual its easier purchase a apartment rather than buying a house or building it. Some people prefer tall apartment as it can provide good views from the home itself. For example my cousin lives in a tall apartment building, so he says he gets incredible sunrise views everyday and having a coffee on the apartment is a better way start the day.

On the other hand there are many disadvantages to disagree with the statement like people may have less privacy, less storage area, apcar parking in such tall apartments. There can be many restrictions maintained in those building. In case if the aparment is poorly designed and constructed it may lead into crowding and other issues. In some aparments there is even restriction of pets. It has other disadvantage like for example my uncle lives in a aparment. He owns a bike wgich is quite loud, therefore he often recieves complaints from the residents on the high decibel bike sound. Also building many tall buildings may obstruct wind flows to the nearby residentail areas. The goverment should focus on building affortable housing projects so that people who cannot affort a full build home can utilize it.

In conclusion, i agree with the tall apartment block as its effective was to provide housing to more number of people and minimize the usage of lands. Also each apartment buildings should have all the needs, space and security.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address the question and give a clear overall position: you agree that tall apartment blocks are an effective way to house more people and reduce land use. The discussion is relevant, with reasons such as protecting farmland and forest, alongside concerns about privacy, parking and restrictions. The examples about your cousin’s view and your uncle’s noisy bike help make the points concrete. However, the response gives substantial space to disadvantages without clearly weighing them against the benefits, so the extent of your agreement is not fully explored. Some points, such as wind obstruction and affordable housing, are introduced but not explained in enough detail. Develop fewer ideas more fully and show explicitly why the advantages make this the best approach.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, a paragraph presenting benefits, a paragraph on disadvantages, and a conclusion. The contrast marker “On the other hand” helps signal the shift, and examples are generally placed near the ideas they support. However, the progression within paragraphs is sometimes loose: the benefits move from land use to personal convenience and views, while the final paragraph adds affordable housing without a clear link to the preceding disadvantages. Some connections are mechanical or unclear, including “In another view” and “It has other disadvantage like for example.” Use clearer topic sentences and link each example directly to the point it illustrates. A more explicit comparison of the two sides would also make the overall argument easier to follow.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a relevant range of topic vocabulary, including “deforestation,” “wildlife,” “privacy,” “restrictions,” and “affordable housing,” which allows you to discuss both environmental and practical issues. There are also attempts at more specific phrasing, such as “obstruct wind flows.” However, spelling errors and inaccurate word choices are noticeable, for example “contruct,” “destoryed,” “apcar parking,” and “affort.” Some collocations are unnatural, such as “a better way start the day” and “full build home,” and “tall apartments” is repeated often. These issues do not prevent the reader from understanding your main points, but they reduce precision. Check spelling carefully and learn common combinations such as “buy an apartment” and “a fully built house.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including clauses beginning with “as,” “so,” and “if.” This gives the response some variety, and the main meaning is usually understandable. However, grammatical control is inconsistent. The opening sentence is a fragment, and constructions such as “its easier purchase a apartment” and “a better way start the day” are missing necessary grammatical elements. There are also errors in articles, agreement and sentence formation, as in “a good things” and “each apartment buildings should have.” Some long sentences join several ideas without clear punctuation, particularly in the discussion of land and deforestation. Practise complete sentence patterns, article use, and agreement, then review punctuation so complex ideas remain clear.
