Student answer (Band 5.0)

Nowadays, due to scarcity of land people believe that excellent way to provide enough homes in large cities is to build tall apartment blocks. I totally agree with the given statement and in this essay, I will discuss the pros and cons and share my opinion.

On the one hand, tall apartments are not suitable for elderly people. In recent news article, people who live in apartment or flats in Mumbai got disappointed because the building has around 25 floors with 4 houses on each floor. Now due to power cut, elevator was not accessible and residents got angry because they have want to go upstairs. Now in this type of situations, it really becomes difficult for the old people to survive with tall apartment blocks. Another reason is that people have started migrating from rural to urban areas for better hospitality and to enjoy life with ease and due to that the population is continuosly increasing. Because people move with their family, they definitely require a place to stay.

Overpopulation creates scarcity of land and because of that I believe apartment or flats are the best options to provide each family a shelter. One the main reasons is the amenities and education which is not available in a few rural areas. To get the better education and other product and services, people start moving to large cities. To maintain the infrastructure, best option is to build tall apartments where many people can stay. It really helps people to get their own home within budget and provide with the social experiences while staying with different culture of people.

To conclude this, tall apartments have become a crucial to give people a shelter. I strongly agree with the given statement which does not cause harm to our infrastructure and imrove the facilities for residents.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

Your position is clear: you state that you “totally agree” and return to this view in the conclusion. You also give relevant points about land scarcity, migration to cities, and the difficulty elderly residents may face when lifts stop working. However, the response only partly develops the task. The Mumbai example mainly presents a disadvantage, while the essay does not explain in enough detail why tall blocks are the best way to provide homes compared with alternatives such as expanding suburbs or building medium-rise housing. The opening promises to discuss “the pros and cons,” but the argument does not fully balance or resolve these points. Develop each reason with a clearer explanation and a specific example linked to your position.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

The essay has an introduction, two body paragraphs and a conclusion, and phrases such as “On the one hand” and “To conclude” help signal stages. However, progression between ideas is not consistently clear. The first body paragraph moves from lift access for elderly people to rural-to-urban migration without explaining the connection, and the second begins with land scarcity before shifting to education and amenities. Some linking phrases are inaccurate or repetitive, including “Now” several times and “One the main reasons.” The paragraphing also does not clearly separate the counterargument from the main case for apartment blocks. Group related ideas together, use references such as “this problem” clearly, and make each paragraph advance one central point.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant topic vocabulary, including “scarcity of land,” “overpopulation,” “infrastructure,” and “residents,” so the reader can follow the general subject. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are unnatural or imprecise, such as “better hospitality” for city services, “other product and services,” and “provide with the social experiences.” Repetition of “people,” “tall apartments,” and “best option” also limits flexibility. Spelling errors such as “continuosly” and “imrove” are noticeable. Build a more precise range for housing and urban planning, and check spelling and collocations so your ideas are expressed naturally and accurately.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and longer sentences, including clauses introduced by “because” and “where,” but control is inconsistent. Errors in sentence structure and verb forms appear in examples such as “they have want to go upstairs” and “tall apartments have become a crucial to give people a shelter.” Articles and agreement also need attention: “in recent news article” and “the population is continuosly increasing” show problems with article use and sentence accuracy. Some sentences join several ideas with “and” or “because,” making relationships harder to follow. Practise building accurate complex sentences, check subject–verb and verb-form choices, and use full stops to separate ideas when a sentence becomes overloaded.
