Student answer (Band 6.0)
In present era it can be seen that people are more inclined towards moving to big cities in order to get multiple amenities in life and better survival. This trend has given a hype to the property sector and people have started to build tall buildings with less space to cater the demand of surging housing needs. This essay will higlight the points both in favour and against the trend of tall apartment blocks.
To begin with the bigger building blocks have numerous benefits in terms of accomodating millions of masses in bigs cities. If instead of having four storeys of a building there are ten storeys than the number of people who can get residence will definitely increase saving people from struggling to find space to hide for survival. Additionaly these appartments cost less as opposed to buying a house which most people are incapable of buying due to the higher living cost in cities. If someone is buying or evening taking these appartments on rent it saves their money which they can spend on other necessities of life.
On the other hand the lack of privacy and the feelings of suffocation as well as loneliness could be the major drawbacks of these tall appartments. These appartments are most of the time much smaller in size that accomodating 4 to 5 persons can become challenging. The appartments are so close to each other that people fail in maintaining privacy. In addition some professionals start developing social isolation by confining themselves in such small 4 walls .
To conclude I believe that the idea to accomodate more people in tall appartment blocks works but it surely have some drawbacks too.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You discuss both advantages and disadvantages and give a clear overall view in the conclusion: tall apartment blocks can accommodate more people, although they have drawbacks. The points about housing capacity and lower costs are relevant, as are concerns about privacy and social isolation. However, the response does not fully answer the key wording about whether this is the *best* way to provide enough homes. It mainly describes benefits and drawbacks, without comparing high-rise housing with alternatives or explaining why it is preferable overall. Several ideas also need fuller support: for example, the claim that apartments cost less is not explained with a specific reason or example, and the drawbacks are asserted rather than illustrated. Develop a consistent position and support the main points more precisely.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a clear overall arrangement: an introduction, a paragraph presenting benefits, a contrasting paragraph on drawbacks, and a conclusion. The progression from “To begin with” to “On the other hand” helps readers follow the two sides, and the conclusion returns to the central topic. This meets the lower-band expectation of coherent organisation and shows some effective paragraphing. To make the progression more consistently clear, ensure each paragraph develops a distinct central point rather than moving quickly between claims. For instance, the benefits paragraph shifts from capacity to affordability without explaining their relationship. Some linking is also mechanical, with repeated “These apartments” and “In addition”; use clearer referencing and vary transitions while showing how each supporting sentence connects to the paragraph’s main idea.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant topic vocabulary, including “property sector,” “housing needs,” “privacy,” and “social isolation,” so the reader can understand the main discussion. There are also attempts at more formal phrasing, such as “in terms of accommodating” and “drawbacks.” However, the range is limited in places, and several inaccurate or unnatural choices reduce precision: “given a hype,” “space to hide for survival,” and “big cities” used as “bigs cities” do not express the intended ideas naturally. Spelling errors such as “higlight,” “accomodating,” and “appartments” are noticeable. Build a more accurate set of housing-related collocations and check spelling; precise wording will make your arguments sound more convincing and less repetitive.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including conditional phrasing (“If instead of having four storeys…”) and a contrastive structure beginning “On the other hand.” The overall meaning is generally understandable, but control is uneven, and errors occur in both sentence construction and basic grammar. For example, “there are ten storeys than the number” needs a clearer comparative structure, while “it surely have some drawbacks” has a subject–verb agreement error. Articles and plurals are also inconsistent, as in “in bigs cities” and “the idea to accomodate more people… works.” Some long sentences would benefit from clearer punctuation and simpler clause structure. Practise accurate comparisons, agreement, and article use, then proofread each sentence for a complete, well-formed structure.
