Student answer (Band 5.5)

Buildig high apartment blocks to give enough residential home for the increasing population in cities is of great importance as it tend to directly affect the livelihood of the citizens. However, a number of citizens agree with this notion others held contrasting views. They thought that building large blocks is nota effective way as it is harmful for our society. I completely agree with the notion that apartment blocks should be build and give statisfactory reasoning and examples to support my opinion in this essay.

There are several reasons as for why we should build new blocks. First of all, building tall apartment block helps giving people a place to live. As the population of the overall world is increasing and there are more and more people moving from villages to cities in serach of job and better living condition, there is a crisis of housing and rental apartment. So, building tall apartmet complexes resolves this issue. It greatly effect the economy of the cities as more labour means more productivity.

The other reason is that it gives people some privacy. As major proportion of citizens are living together with their parents and family ehich reduces their privacy and persoal time. Living in separate homes gives you enough time and space to think or enjoy your life. It not only helps you managing your time efficiently but increase your work efficacy. You can also spend your time in recreational activities which help improve your mood.

In conclusion, building blocks effect the ecosystem as it snatches the habitats of animals and birds but it is essential for the economy of the city as more residents means more labour and more productivity.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

Your position is clear: you state, “I completely agree,” and give two relevant reasons—housing more residents and providing privacy. These points address the topic, but the response only partly develops the argument. The housing paragraph links more homes to increased labour and productivity, yet does not explain why tall blocks are preferable to other ways of providing housing. The privacy point is also broad and would benefit from a specific example or explanation of how apartment construction creates privacy. The conclusion introduces harm to animal habitats, an important counterpoint that is not discussed in the body, and does not clearly reaffirm your degree of agreement. Develop each reason with explanation and an example, and address the environmental drawback before concluding.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, two body paragraphs and a conclusion. “First of all” and “The other reason” help signal the main points, so readers can follow the basic organisation. However, progression is limited: the ideas within paragraphs are often listed rather than connected through a clear line of reasoning. For example, the privacy paragraph moves from living with family to time management, work efficacy and recreation without showing how each point follows from the previous one. The conclusion’s reference to ecosystem damage is not prepared for in the body, which weakens the overall progression. Use clearer links between claims and explanations, and ensure the conclusion reflects points developed earlier.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use some topic-relevant vocabulary, including “population,” “housing,” “privacy,” “productivity” and “habitats,” which allows you to communicate the main ideas. However, the range is limited and several word-choice, collocation and spelling problems make the writing less natural. Examples include “residential home,” “search of job,” “rental apartment” and “work efficacy”; these expressions are awkward or imprecise in context. There are also noticeable spelling errors such as “Buildig,” “serach” and “apartmet.” Aim to use accurate collocations and check spelling carefully. More precise language for discussing urban housing and its effects would help you express the argument with greater clarity and variety.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including a reason clause beginning “As the population…” and a contrast introduced by “However.” The main message is generally understandable, but errors recur in sentence structure, agreement, verb forms and punctuation. For instance, “a number of citizens agree … others held contrasting views” joins two clauses without suitable punctuation or a conjunction, while “it tend to directly affect” has a subject–verb agreement error. In “building tall apartment block helps giving,” the noun form and verb pattern are not controlled, and “it not only helps you managing … but increase” has parallel-structure and agreement problems. Practise building accurate complex sentences and check that subjects, verbs and paired constructions agree.
