Student answer (Band 5.5)

The best way to provide enough homes in large cities is to build tall apartment blocks.I agree with this statement because of various reasons. In the recent years many people have moved to cities from the villages seeking oppourtunity and services. And this has caused serious problem providing enough homes to the peoples.

One soultion for the problem is to build tall apartment blocks as it provides more space for the peoples to live. But there are both pros and cons in this approach. It is because builiding tall apartment blocks means it has high risk from the natural calamities like earthquak as tall buildings are vulnarable compared to short buildings. So the apartment must be built using good materials and proper architecture.Building the apartments with good material means it can cost expensive but it is worth than other alternatives.Although it may cost expensive building tall apartments it is still cheaper than building a house from the scratch.Looking at the recent years where most of the people are moving to cities, building tall apartment blocks is the best approach because the other alternative approach like building multiple homes for multiple peoples can have different disadvantages because building multiple homes can destroy the cultivable lands and it can make the place more crowdy and chaotic.By building tall apartment blocks we can save the cultivable lands as there are not much cultivable lands left in current scenario.

At the end, i would agree with the statement " The best way to provide enough homes in large cities is to build tall apartment blocks." because of the advantages it provides and it is also economically beneficial.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

Your position is clear: you agree that tall apartment blocks are the best solution, and you give relevant reasons, including accommodating more residents, preserving cultivable land, and being cheaper than building separate houses. You also acknowledge a drawback—earthquake risk—and suggest using suitable materials and architecture. However, several points are asserted rather than explained, such as why alternative housing would make cities more chaotic, and the earthquake concern is not balanced with evidence or a concrete example. The response is 237 words, so it is 13 words below the 250-word minimum; the 32 words copied from the task prompt are not counted. Develop your reasons with specific examples and fuller explanation to address the task more completely.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, a main paragraph discussing the proposed solution and its drawbacks, and a concluding statement that restates your view. This gives the reader a basic route through your argument. However, most of the discussion is compressed into one long body paragraph, and the progression between cost, earthquake safety, and land use is not always smooth. Linking phrases such as “Although” and “By building” help connect ideas, but transitions are sometimes mechanical, and repeated references to “building tall apartment blocks” make the argument feel repetitive. Use separate paragraphs for the main benefits and the counterargument, and make each paragraph develop one central point with clear links between supporting details.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use some relevant topic vocabulary, including “natural calamities,” “vulnerable,” “cultivable lands,” and “economically beneficial,” which helps communicate the subject. There is also an attempt to express comparison and evaluation, for example, “cheaper than building a house from the scratch.” However, the range is limited and several phrases are inaccurate or awkward, sometimes making the reader pause: “providing enough homes to the peoples,” “cost expensive,” and “the place more crowdy and chaotic.” Spelling errors such as “oppourtunity,” “soultion,” and “earthquak” are noticeable. Aim for more precise collocations and check spelling; for instance, use “housing shortage,” “affordable,” and “overcrowded” where appropriate.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt some complex structures, including a concession with “Although” and a reason clause beginning “because,” and the overall meaning is generally understandable. However, the range is limited, and errors occur frequently in sentence boundaries, articles, agreement, and sentence construction. For example, “apartment blocks.I agree” needs a space and clearer sentence separation, while “it provides more space for the peoples to live” has an unclear pronoun reference and an unnecessary plural form. The sentence beginning “Looking at the recent years” is also awkwardly constructed and difficult to follow. Practise building accurate complex sentences, and check articles, singular/plural forms, and punctuation. Breaking long sentences into shorter, complete units would improve clarity.
