Student answer (Band 6.0)

It is often argued that there is a relation between the home availablity and the way of construction especially tall building apartments. Some convinced that tall apartment blocks are the best way for providing enough housing in large cities. In my opinion, the best way for building depends on the available space and the population in the cities.

On one hand, the large cities without availablity of land, the appropriate way for providing new houses is by vertical expansion through constructing skyscrapers. For instance, Shanghai city, is considered one of the most crowded cities in the world and it suffers from land shortage so, there are many tall buildings there. Although this way of building solve the issue of housing in the large cities, it have many side effects on the people's health.

On the other hand, building tall apartment blocks is not suitable with the new cities because they already have enough land area. Horizontal expantion for the real estate here is beneficial for the development of the city. For example, the new capital city in Egypt encourdged the building of twin houses and villas to make sure that the city will be housed as fast as possible as the horizontal housing increase the rate of the city development. Moreover, this way of development have a good impact on the mental health of the city's people.

In conclusion, I agree with the opinion of building tall apartment blocks only if the city don't have enough area. However, I encourge the people to do there best to move to the new cities for their mental health.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

Your position is clear: tall blocks are appropriate where land is scarce, but not necessarily in newer cities with more space. You address both sides and support them with examples from Shanghai and Egypt, so the response is relevant to the question. However, some ideas are less fully explained than others. The claim that skyscrapers affect people’s health is not supported with a reason or example, and the link between villas, faster development, and housing supply in the new capital is asserted rather than demonstrated. The conclusion also introduces a recommendation to move to new cities, which is not developed in the main argument. Explain the effects you mention and connect each example more directly to whether tall blocks are the best solution.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The essay has a clear overall arrangement: an introduction, two contrasting body paragraphs, and a conclusion. The signposts “On one hand,” “On the other hand,” and “In conclusion” help readers follow the comparison, and each body paragraph has a central focus. Some connections are less clear or mechanical, however. The opening sentence about a “relation” between housing availability and construction does not lead smoothly into your position. Within the first body paragraph, the shift from land shortage to health effects needs a clearer explanation, while the second paragraph moves from land availability to development speed and mental health without showing how these points connect. Use linking sentences to make the reasoning explicit and ensure the conclusion follows from the arguments already presented.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use relevant topic vocabulary, including “land shortage,” “vertical expansion,” “real estate,” and “mental health,” and the meaning is generally understandable. There are also attempts to use less common expressions, but some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or awkward, such as “home availablity,” “building tall apartment blocks,” and “the city will be housed.” Spelling errors—including “expantion,” “encourdged,” and “encourge”—also reduce accuracy. Aim for natural combinations such as “housing availability,” “constructing high-rise apartment buildings,” and “accommodate the city’s population.” More precise vocabulary would help distinguish housing supply, urban growth, and residents’ wellbeing rather than relying on broad claims.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and complex sentences, using structures such as “Although this way of building…” and “because they already have enough land area.” This gives the response some variety, and the main ideas remain understandable. Some grammatical errors persist, particularly with subject–verb agreement, articles, and sentence construction. For example, “this way of building solve” and “this way of development have” need singular verbs, while “it have many side effects” also requires agreement. The opening phrase “the large cities without availability of land” is not formed as a complete, natural clause, and “the city don’t have enough area” has an agreement error. Review agreement and clause structure, and check punctuation around introductory phrases and examples.
