Student answer (Band 5.0)
Yes i agree with this. Beacuse if we look at the congestion in cities with very little space left for most of the people to live in city. As the population of the country is increasing constantly it is better to build large apartments in tall building blocks. As the population is increasing. Every person thinks that he should have a large home and a comfortable place to live near the city but it is only poosible if we built tall blocks and cost effective for everyone to easily afforde it.
let me give you an example from my personal life
My maternal uncle used to live in city far off from her home. he has to travel daily from hometown to the city for work.he was a heart patient it was very difficult for him to continue his job like this. so he a bought a loan from the bank and buy himself a house in the city. The house in the city was very small and not according to the expectations but he has to take this step to meet his job requirement along witb hos heath. He is paying the loans of this house till mow evem after his retirement. So i have watched him suffer from this due to increased house prices in the city that are also not that big . so according to me the only solution which we have is to build a tall apartment block in the city so that every person can have his home in the place he wants to live but also in the affordable price. It also solves the issue of pollution beacuse people will take care of their house.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
Your position is clear from the opening—“Yes i agree”—and you give relevant reasons, including limited urban space, rising population, affordability and your uncle’s experience. The personal example helps illustrate how expensive city housing can affect someone’s life. However, the response only partially develops the argument: it does not explain in detail why tall apartment blocks are the best solution compared with alternatives, or how they would make homes affordable. The claim that they would “solve[] the issue of pollution” is also introduced without explanation and is not clearly connected to the housing argument. Develop each main point with a specific explanation or example, and make the link between high-rise construction and the benefits you claim explicit.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
There is some organisation: you state your view, introduce a personal example, and return to your conclusion that tall apartment blocks are the solution. The uncle’s story is relevant, but the response moves from population growth to personal expectations, then to the story and pollution without a clear progression between these points. Several ideas are crowded into long sentences, while “let me give you an example from my personal life” functions as an informal transition rather than a developed paragraph link. Use separate paragraphs for your argument, example and conclusion, and connect each paragraph with clear references such as “This illustrates…” or “In addition…”. Avoid repeating the population point and ensure each sentence advances one main idea.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use a limited but relevant set of topic words, including “population,” “apartments,” “house prices,” “affordable” and “pollution,” so the main subject is generally understandable. However, vocabulary is repetitive, particularly the repeated use of “city,” “house” and “build,” and some choices are inaccurate or unclear, such as “large apartments in tall building blocks” and “bought a loan.” Spelling errors—including “poosible,” “afforde” and “beacuse”—also make the writing less fluent to read. Build a more precise range for housing and urban development, and check spelling and collocations carefully. For example, distinguish between constructing high-rise apartment buildings and providing affordable housing, rather than relying on repeated general terms.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and longer sentences, including a reason clause beginning “As the population…” and a sequence describing your uncle’s circumstances. However, the range is limited, and attempts to combine several ideas often produce faulty sentences or fragments, such as “As the population is increasing” and “As the population… it is better to build…”. Verb forms and agreement are frequently inaccurate: “he has to travel” shifts from the past-tense story, while “he… buy himself a house” should use a past-tense form. Sentence boundaries and punctuation are also inconsistent, with several run-on sentences and missing capital letters after full stops. Practise accurate past-tense narration and divide long sentences into complete, clearly punctuated clauses.
