Student answer (Band 6.5)

Population in big cities is increasing immensely around the globe. Constructing flats and penthouses in mega cities would be appropriate to provide homes to the people. I agree with this statement because it covers less space and provides better security and amenities for the people.

In larger cities, the rising population is one of the major problems which leads to accommodation issues. Building tall apartment blocks in major cities would be the best solution to overcome this problem. The reason for that is because it requires less space and cost in contrast to build conventional houses. A Large number of people could be accommodated in a much smaller space which is relatively affordable.

Another significant reason to advocate this argument is that not only it can solve the accommodation problem in larger cities, but it can also provide better security and shared amenities to the people. Living in a flat provides safety net to the family and society. Children and elderly people are much safer because of the additional security measures such as CCTV cameras and security guards. Additionally, tall residential apartments have various amenities such as parks, playing grounds, and gyms. Furthermore, they also offers lift which are essential for the elderly population.

To conclude, from my perspective, I believe that it is a viable solution to overcome the rising demand of accommodation for the people by constructing tall apartments because it occupy less space and can accommodate large number of people, and they provides better security and improved amenities to the people.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

Your position is clear from the introduction: you agree that tall apartment blocks are an appropriate response to housing demand, and the conclusion restates this view. You give two relevant reasons—efficient land use and shared security and amenities—and support the latter with examples such as CCTV, guards, parks and lifts. This addresses the task well. However, the land-use argument is more fully explained than the claim that apartments cost less, which is asserted without an example or explanation. The security and amenities point is relevant, but its connection to providing enough homes could be made more explicit. To strengthen the response further, develop each reason with a specific example and briefly acknowledge a limitation or explain why this approach is preferable to alternatives.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction states your position, two body paragraphs present separate reasons, and a conclusion summarises the argument. The progression from housing capacity to security and shared facilities is easy to follow. Linking expressions such as “Another significant reason,” “Additionally” and “To conclude” help signal this movement, and the examples are placed in the relevant paragraph. Some connections are less smooth: “The reason for that is because” is repetitive, while “not only it can solve … but it can also provide” makes the relationship between the two benefits awkward to follow. Use a wider range of natural links and clearer referencing, and make the transition from the general claim about affordability to its supporting explanation more direct.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of topic-related vocabulary, including “accommodation issues,” “conventional houses,” “security measures” and “elderly population.” These choices make the main ideas clear, and terms such as “accommodated” and “amenities” show an attempt to use more precise language. However, some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or imprecise: “increasing immensely” is less natural than “growing rapidly,” and “safety net” does not convey the intended meaning of physical security. “Playing grounds” is also less idiomatic than “playgrounds.” Repetition of “people,” “problem” and “tall apartments” limits flexibility. Aim for more natural collocations and vary references to residents and housing while keeping the meaning precise.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including a relative clause in “which leads to accommodation issues” and a contrast structure in the paragraph about security and amenities. The meaning remains clear, but some grammatical errors recur. For example, “they also offers lift” has subject–verb agreement and article errors; “it occupy less space” and “they provides” also have agreement errors. The construction “not only it can solve … but it can also provide” needs more balanced word order, and “because it requires less space and cost in contrast to build” is not grammatically well formed. Check agreement, articles and parallel structures, and revise complex sentences to ensure their clauses fit together accurately.
