Student answer (Band 6.0)

It has been seen that the optimum plan to arrange sufficient houses in large cities is to build high rise buildings. I partially agree with this statement, as it has both merits as well as demerits. It helps in using the small place and accomodating large group of people, there is also problems like less livable conditions, emergencies to deal with etc.

There are many advantages in building tall appartment blocks, as it will use only less space for building homes to large number of people, which will deal with the main problem of limited land in the city and helps in decreasing realestate prices. It brings families together to form a comittee and take part in to dealing with problems of society as a whole, celebrate festivals, it creates an ecosystem in building good neighborhood relations. People who choose safety over comfort comes to it, as it provides ultimate security than independent houses.

On the other side, there are many issues that are needed to be dealt with, as home feels like just walls and can't able get their personal gardan, lawn which many people used to it in their houses. Large groups of people in small area will cause trouble in public transportation, traffic congestion, watter supply, hospitals etc. People needed to follow rules and regulations of the society they live in with less freedom, which many people don't like. If there is any emergency like fire accident, there will be huge life loss as many people are living in conjested area.

In conclusion, there will be two sides of the coin which shows both advantages as well as disadvantages. At the end people needs to decide whether they are interested in which type of life style.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

Your position is clear: you partially agree, and you address both the benefits and drawbacks of high-rise housing. Relevant points include using limited urban land, potentially reducing property prices, and concerns about congestion and fire safety. This covers the task, but some ideas are asserted rather than fully explained. For example, the claim that apartment living “helps in decreasing realestate prices” needs a clearer link to how increased housing supply affects prices. The points about community and security are also brief, while the conclusion does not restate your own judgement about whether tall blocks are the best solution. Develop the strongest points with explanation or a specific example, and make your final position more decisive.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a coherent overall structure: an introduction, a paragraph on advantages, a paragraph on disadvantages, and a conclusion. The contrast between the main body paragraphs is easy to follow, and phrases such as “On the other side” signal a shift in argument. However, some sentences combine several ideas without showing their relationships clearly. The first body paragraph moves from land use and prices to community and security, while the second lists transport, traffic, water, and hospitals in one sequence. Use clearer topic sentences and develop one or two related points at a time. The conclusion’s “two sides of the coin” repeats the balanced structure but does not clearly connect back to your stated partial agreement.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a relevant range of vocabulary for the topic, including “limited land,” “traffic congestion,” “security,” and “rules and regulations.” These choices make your main ideas understandable, and you attempt more specific expressions such as “ecosystem” and “conjested area.” However, inaccurate spelling and word choice are noticeable, including “accomodating,” “appartment,” “realestate,” and “gardan.” Some phrases are also unnatural or imprecise: “use only less space” and “ultimate security” do not express the intended meaning naturally. Aim for accurate collocations and check spelling carefully; this would make your vocabulary more precise and fluent without requiring unnecessarily complex words.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including clauses introduced by “as” and “which,” and your meaning is generally understandable. Some grammatical errors remain, particularly with agreement, articles, and verb forms. For example, “there is also problems” should be “there are also problems,” and “People who choose safety over comfort comes” should use “come.” In “People needed to follow rules,” the modal meaning would be clearer as “People need to follow rules.” Several sentences also join clauses with commas, as in “It helps in using the small place and accomodating large group of people, there is also problems,” creating a run-on structure. Separate related ideas and check agreement and sentence boundaries.
