Student answer (Band 6.0)
It is being considered that building tall apartment blocks is the best way to provide accommodation in large cities. In my opinion, this could be an option to cater the increasing demand of housing in urban cities but it has a major safety drawback of escaping in situation of a fire in building.
It is widely agreed that building multiple stories of apartment buildings can help in meeting demands of accommodation as individuals from around the country settle in big cities in search of better employment opportunities and living conditions. This is leading to increase demand of housing in urban areas. Due to limitations in infrastructure it is becoming hard for people to buy their own houses and the increase in demand is leading to high costs of housing for rent. For this reason, small apartments in multi story buildings is considered go to option to deal with rising demands of housing. But this solution comes with serious safety drawback which can be very dangerous in fire situations
I believe the tall apartment building although is solving the issue of housing demand, but it can become very dangeorus and life threatening in case there is a fire in building. The tall buildings has multiple stories and if a fire break out it become very difficult for people living on top floors to escape. This situation poses serious safety issues as fire spread very quickly and as evident it takes time to take out. In recent event of fire in a building in major city of Pakistan lead to death of 15 people as they were trapped inside and were not able to escape out in time.
In conclusion, although tall building solve one of the major rising issue of housing in urban cities, it poses serious safety concerns and can become life threatening for people in case of fire.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
Your position is clear: you recognise that apartment blocks can meet urban housing demand, but argue that fire safety makes them problematic. You support this with relevant reasons about limited infrastructure, rising housing costs and the difficulty of escaping from upper floors, then give a specific Pakistan fire example. This addresses the question, but the extent of your agreement is not fully defined: the introduction calls tall blocks “an option” while the conclusion mainly stresses their danger. The response also gives much more attention to the fire risk than to whether this is the best way to provide homes. Develop the comparison by explaining how planning, fire-safety measures, or alternative housing approaches affect your overall judgement.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, two body paragraphs and a conclusion. The progression from housing demand to the safety drawback is easy to follow, and phrases such as “For this reason” and “In conclusion” help signal relationships between ideas. However, the first body paragraph repeats the demand-and-housing-cost point before moving to the safety concern, and the second paragraph restates the same drawback rather than extending the argument. Some links are also awkward, such as “But this solution comes with…” following a long sequence of related claims. Give each paragraph a distinct purpose and use clearer referencing to connect the example to the argument.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use a relevant range of topic vocabulary, including “accommodation,” “employment opportunities,” “infrastructure,” “life threatening” and “safety concerns.” These choices make the main ideas clear, and the example adds specificity. However, several word-choice and collocation problems reduce precision: “cater the increasing demand” should be “cater to” or “meet the increasing demand,” while “go to option” is informal and unnatural in this context. There are also spelling errors such as “dangeorus,” and repeated use of “demand” and “housing” limits flexibility. Aim for more natural academic collocations and check spelling carefully; alternatives such as “residential demand” and “high-rise developments” would help vary the wording.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including a concession in “although tall building solve…” and a conditional fire scenario. The main meaning is generally understandable, but some errors in agreement, articles and verb forms remain. For example, “small apartments … is considered” needs plural agreement, “The tall buildings has” should be “have,” and “if a fire break out it become” needs “breaks out” and “becomes.” The opening sentence also has an awkwardly constructed clause, and several sentences would benefit from more accurate punctuation. Review subject–verb agreement and tense consistency, then proofread longer sentences to ensure that each clause is complete and correctly connected.
